Massachusetts is better than their record. They are more of an offensive team. Massachusetts has nothing to lose, will come out smoking and be desperate to get a win and stop the losing streak. They have some very high-level NFL draft picks (4). They score most of their points in period 3. We don't want to go into period 3 with a one or two point lead. We need to take it to them from the getgo. Their Olympic Rink should work to our speed advantage. We need to continue to use our speed to take away space and time. We need this next 4-non conference wins. 60 minutes, no letup. We took our foot off of the gas against NH and UNH ran over us. Let's not have it happen again. We need Eli and the Captains to step up.

"UMass hockey looks to get back on track in nonconference contest against Union"

http://dailycollegian.com/2015/12/10/umass-hockey-looks-to-get-back-on-track-in-nonconference-contest-against-union/

Specifically, the Minutemen (6-7-4, 2-4-4 Hockey East) have played six of their last seven games away from home. They went 0-4-3 in that stretch and have fallen into a four-way tie for sixth place in Hockey East with eight points. Friday night, UMass will finally be back out on the Mullins Center ice when it takes on nonconference opponent Union, which won the national title in 2014.

Both coach John Micheletto and captain Steven Iacobellis voiced their excitement when asked how it felt being home ... there is no doubt UMass will look to come out firing against a versatile team like the Dutchmen.

Union blew a 3-1 lead at UMass after two, but Vidmar bails the Dutchmen out with 9 secs left in OT. Dutchmen win 4-3.

Irony:

Umass star freshman was from Sweden.
"Lagesson Named To Sweden’s Preliminary WJC Roster"
The Minuteman freshman is one of eight defensemen competing for seven roster spots.

But it was our freshman from Sweden, Sebastian Vidmar, that was the star for us.

Our very talented freshmen class is beginning to assert themselves. Both our 6'3" freshmen forwards were on the ice tonight. The Captains played well, especially when it counted in killing that 5 minute major. Refusing to accept defeat as an option. Haven't seen that in a while.

In the video link, you can hear Bennett's sigh of relief right after Vidmar's goal.

J. C. Brassard leads all Dutchmen with a +5 .... not bad for the Sophmore Defensemen from the academic elite Nobles & Greenough Prep School. And his teammate, Connor Light is also from another elite prep, Phillips Academy in Andover.

One game at a time, one period at a time, one shift at a time.

Vermont has played possibly the toughest schedule in College Hockey.
- 12 of their matchups have been against ranked teams at the time they played them ...

We are one of the youngest teams in D-1 College Hockey according to CHN
- 10th youngest out of 60 teams
- 2nd youngest in the ECAC

Vermont's strength is defense, weakness is the power play and penalty kill. They are improving and beat BU at Againis and St. Lawrence. They have some injuries but the backups have been performing well. With Tri-semester our focus should be all hockey.

One of the worse efforts on the part of the Dutchman. Terribly sloppy passing, out of position, broken coverage. We looked like week one. Kudo's to UVM, great hustle and defense and speed. Sak saved our butt more than once. Somehow we found a way to come back being down 2-0 and win but it was sure ugly. This is a much better UVM team than their record shows. Game winner by foo - http://giphy.com/gifs/3o8doYxr4WgQPkuJm8 This year we have lost some we should have won. This one we won but I am not sure we were the best team on the ice on Sunday.

Ugly game but a win. Just what we needed.
Foo with a letter on the jersey next year ?
Starting to see some good effort from some player that had been disappointing to me... Hope it continues with a bit more consistency, especially in the passing sector...

Nice article Ryan - good choices. Another strength: Penalty kill at 53 of 59 (despite a scorekeeping error giving Harvard a PP goal one second after penalty expired). Even with team success in recent years, I don't recall Union PK being so good.
