Michigan will be very tough

http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2015/10/13_2015-16_big_ten_team_preview.php

Strength: Offense
Despite losing Larkin and Hyman, offense remains Michiganís biggest strength, thanks partly to Zach Werenskiís return. Add in the addition of Kyle Connor, who led the USHL in scoring last year.

Weakness: Defense
Michiganís weakness is the same itís been for years now ó goaltending and defense. While the Wolverines netted 3.88 goals per game last year, they also allowed 2.89. While Berenson said he expects the team defense, the defensemen and the goaltending to be better this season, defense has been Michiganís biggest question mark over the past few years.

Picked to finish 1st in the Big 10

Another OK week end.
Close game friday, highly physical, lots of battles in the middle of the ice. Otherwise, looked a lot like last friday's game : slightly slower paced, a few errors creeping in including some dangerous giveaways in front of the net, looks like everyone is trying and we're getting good chances even if the goals aren't there. A great showing by both goalies.
On Saturday, a better looking team. More organized and composed. Very very surprised by Kupsky: he is the first freshman goalie in a long time that really looks SOLID in net on his first game (not like a wounded bird flapping around an oil spill looking all lost in the crease). I hope it's the beginning of good things to come from him. He really looked strong, clearly my top player of the week end.

And as usual, we have trouble playing teams that defend so high, nothing new there. They have always been hard to play for us, when we really count on our shooting defensmen to make stuff happen. I hope that the coaching staff notices and comes up with something. If Michigan plays us like that, they will not miss on breakaway chances...

Go U!!!!

The video and sound and bandwidth are much improved over last year as is the indoor lighting. We now have multiple camera shots and instant replay.

Two more NC and then six Conference. We should know a lot more by then.
- Continuing where we left off at the end of last year. Back to Fundamental Hockey.
- Blueliners and Goalies have improved ...
- Please stop giving away the puck in front of the crease.
- Maine is a very good hockey team and is going to surprise folks, a lot of folks.
- Upperclassmen have to step up more ... until the frosh develop.
- First game against Maine we blocked 3 shots, the second matchup we blocked 22. Now that is more like it.

"In 2014-15, Michigan finished with the top offense in the nation, averaging 3.86 goals per game. Michiganís defense, however, was 38th in the country (2.89). Penn State was 12th in scoring last season (3.22) and 42nd (3.05) defensively. ... After their opening weekend, a home sweep of Mercyhurst, the Wolverines are sixth nationally in offense (4.50) and tied for 28th defensively (3.00)."

What type of game is this going to be? More of a run and gun?

Thanks for the endorsement but based on what we witnessed at the Q last night, I doubt it. :(

Time for the coaching staff to give the reigns to Kupsky. Sak just doesn't have the athleticism to be a D-I goalie.

We gave that one away ... snatching defeat from the Jaws of victory ... not once, not twice but at least three times. One of our defensemen, Noah Henry, deflects a Michigan shot into our goal. Much work to be done.

A tough one to swallow... although at this point, a tie is the better alternative.
Very disappointed by Sak... Lots of so-so saves while sitting on his butt, or out of balance, or out of position... I'm very bummed out by his performance. Hope Kupsky gets the start tonight.
The D did make some mistakes, and still loves to give away the puck in front of the net, this is not acceptable.
Michigan has great individual players, who showed us how to put the puck in the back of the net. Every time they had a decent chance, it went in : EVERY TIME.
It reminds me a bit of the team we had 2 years ago : ahead in a bunch of games and then we just slow down a tad and the game slips out. When you have a chance to kill the game, do it. Never let up or you get burnt. I hope the team can fix this.
I did see a lot of effort and some decent hockey at times, but overall still lacking a bit of maturity. We're so close from being a good team !! If we fix the few things that need to get fixed, we'll be just fine. If not, it's going to haunt us the rest of the season and it really is going to suck.

On to Maine. GO U !!!!!

"Men's Hockey Breaks NCAA Record with Tie Against Brown"
By ROBERT S SAMUELS, CRIMSON STAFF WRITER February 18, 2012

PROVIDENCE—The Harvard men’s hockey team broke an NCAA record on Friday night against Brown.
Not for wins, or for losses, or for most goals scored. No, the Crimson now has reserved its spot in the record books for the most neutral record of them all: most ties in a single season. Harvard became the first team in NCAA history to record 11 ties in one campaign, knotting the Bears, 3-3, at Meehan Auditorium. After initially opening up a 2-0 lead, the Crimson (8-7-11, 6-4-9 ECAC) held a 3-2 advantage for much of the third period. But a Brown (8-14-4, 5-12-3 ECAC) score with just 1:46 left on the clock forced the game into overtime, where neither team could break the deadlock.

“There are good ties and bad ties. This one…we certainly don’t have a good taste in our mouths,” Harvard coach Ted Donato ’91 said. “It’s a point on the road. It beats losing, but that’s about the only positive that I feel right now.”
