Ok... the young kids talked me into it... ;)

We all owe Jack McDonald a debt of gratitude for having the vision he has had during his tenure here. Our entire athletics program is better because of him. I only hope his replacement has half as much enthusiasm as he does.

As for this off-season, it's started a couple of weeks too early. It would have been nice to play some April hockey but I guess we'll just have to wait until next year in Tampa.

To all the players, coaches, staff, family, friends, and fans... thanks for another great season of Bobcats hockey.

Also the new AD must be a Deadhead. It worked out last time.

Thanks for starting this Mark.

I've been wondering about the recruits. I know QUAlum2004 is busy but when you get a chance I'd love an update on the recruits.

Couple people who will need to step up big time next year: MacMaster, Toews, Cliftons, TSD.

Excited to see what Anas and L Smith bring to the table next year. Both had fantastic seasons. Looking back on the season having BVB would've been a huge lift. We needed someone to be a presence in front of the net. T Clifton stepped up into that role and did quite nicely. He just isnt a force like BVB was.

I'd expect Peca to be signed by the end of next week. Don't know if they'll have him report to Tampa or their AHL team.

If I had a guess, I'd say Rand taps TSD and Jonzzon as co captains for next year

I'll update the recruits in this thread soon. Really interested to see which recruits come over next season and which stay back in juniors. They need to replace 2 d men. I think Chase Priskie is 1 that will come over. Losing only 4 players they don't really need to bring much in at all. I'll have time to break down the recruits tomorrow.

Thanks for starting this Mark.I was bullied into it! :p

Couple people who will need to step up big time next year: MacMaster, Toews, Cliftons, TSD.Everyone will need to step up next year. It's part of the progression. I think we saw some of the guys start to come into their own. MacMaster, and McKernan really picked it up down the stretch. My only problem with MacMaster is he's at times too selfish and/or holds onto the puck too long. McKernan should be a stout D-man with this years experience under his belt.

Don't forget Garteig. He's going to have to carry this team next season. He was very good this year but I think he has more to offer and needs to be our best guy on the ice each and every night.

Excited to see what Anas and L Smith bring to the table next year. Both had fantastic seasons.Landon Smith really impressed me this year. One of our best forecheckers all season long. Great hands and stick skills. He should be a force for sure next year. Anas... a gifted player for certain. The closest thing to a sniper we've had in quite a while. Has to have the team record for posts and crossbars!

Looking back on the season having BVB would've been a huge lift. We needed someone to be a presence in front of the net. T Clifton stepped up into that role and did quite nicely. He just isnt a force like BVB was.BVB would have been huge this year with what we had offensively. Tim Clifton had a great 1st half but seemed to fade a bit down the stretch.

If I had a guess, I'd say Rand taps TSD and Jonzzon as co captains for next yearMost likely candidates for sure. I'm actually thinking Jonzzon with the "C" and TSD an "A"...

Does anyone leave early?

I don't see anyone leaving early but possibly Toews if I had to guess. Otherwise I think the entire team returns.

How about two #1 seeds going down yesterday? And that scorefest in Providence was unreal. Whatever happens, it should be a decent Frozen Four field.

Can't see Toews leaving. He had a mediocre year in my eyes. He turns the puck over FAR too often in the defensive zone. Almost gave a few to UND. I think the entire team returns that isnt graduating.

I agree as well. I don't see anyone leaving at all. I just raised the possibility if anyone left maybe it would be Toews but I really don't see that happening. Now onto my roster predictions and recruits for next year.

Players leaving

Matthew Peca F
Alex Barron F/D
Danny Federico D
Justin Agosta D

There isn't much room for recruits. I think they will bring in a max of probably 5 maybe 6.

Players I think are coming

Craig Martin LW (1995 DOB) 6'0 180, Trail (BCHL) 19 G 27 A
Scott Davidson RW (1995 DOB) 6'1 200, Chilliwack (BCHL) 18 G, 27 A
Nelson Gadoury C (1995 DOB) 6'1 200, Camrose (AJHL) 22 G 26 A
Chase Priskie D (1996 DOB) 6'0 187, Salmon Arm (BCHL) 6 G 14 A
Luke Shiplo D (1995 DOB) 5'9 183, Vernon (BCHL) 5 G 39 A
Daniel Fritz D (1995 DOB) 6'1 195, Coquitlam (BCHL) 8 G 30 A

They either take all 3 of these Defenceman or they take 2 of the 3 with Shiplo coming over this year with either Priskie or Fritz the other coming over.

Ryan Finnegan signed a NLI to us for 2015-16 but I don't see anyway he comes at a true 18 year old player this year. He is done with SkipJacks hockey but he was drafted by the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL. He could go there or he could go to the BCHL for a year of seasoning. I just don't think there is any space for him to get minutes especially with the Renauf twins likely seeing time next year as they didn't play a minute this year and the rest of the team coming back along with 3 1995 forwards.

I agree. I just don't know if this is a class of 5 or 6 guys which would probably mean 3 dmen. I really hope they don't bring Ryan Finnegan in as a true freshman as he can definitely get stronger playing a year or 2 of higher juniors.

Gadoury is going to bring the toughness that we lost with BVB not being here this year if you can live with the amount of penalty minutes he will bring.

Where does Peca go in terms of all time Bobcat greats? I've only been around for 4 years so I cant speak in terms of comparison to Cashman and Wong. Thoughts?

Where does Peca go in terms of all time Bobcat greats? I've only been around for 4 years so I cant speak in terms of comparison to Cashman and Wong. Thoughts?Definitely a top 5 if not top 3, right behind Cashman and Wong. I give the edge to Wong because he was a goal scorer. Peca was a playmaker as his assists total indicates. Peca might be the best puck handler I've seen since 2006-07, however it looks to me like Landon Smith may just have something to say about that.

Overall, Peca was simply a pleasure to watch. Quick speed, great hands, tons of points. I'll never forget his 3-on-5 shortie against RPI or how he single-handedly dismantled Union in Providence.

Cashman, Hartzell, Peca, and Wong. Soon to be joined by Anas.

Hartzell #2?? He was a slightly over .500 goalie before a great senior year. I think you need to include Marshall or Leitch!

Marshall and Leitch were great, great players -- those guys were there my four years. But they were not all-timers like Cashman and Wong. Reid is still the No. 1 player in program history and it's not even close. Wong and Peca are up there, I think it's fair to put Hartzell near the top, as well, though I think Jamie Holden might have been a better goaltender. Hartzell gets the nod for me because of what he accomplished, but it's close between those two for best goalies in program history.
