    Re: Michigan Tech-Northern Michigan...the UP's (un)Civil War

Sorry to say, I think the only way Davis sees ice is if Mankato locks up the MacNaughton on Friday, or NMU is up 2-3 goals late on Friday. Mel's a good guy, but if we're still in the hunt on Saturday, he's going to play the best lineup he can, and unfortunately Jimmy hasn't been in that picture for four years. He will be part of the senior ceremony on Friday, and he will understand. He's practiced hard for this long, he's not going to bitter.

Eick is a guarantee, as he is healthy again according to Mel, and we want him ready for the playoffs.

I would expect Mel to put his best 18 skaters on the ice both nights with no regards to sentiment. There is still a possibility of a #1 seed in the NCAA, even though that would likely mean a trip out East.

Should be a great series this weekend. I'm headed to MQT tomorrow. There will be a lot of Alumni in town. I know of about 15-20 individuals I went to school with headed up. Looking forward to some great hockey and great beers.

Is Goofus still around? That guy was great. Loved seeing him and his one man band at the Tech/Northern games.

What's the word on the NMU Goaltender? Will Dahlstrom be back tonight or tomorrow?

If Tech Sweeps and Mankato loses and ties, do they share the cup? Or does head to head give it to Mankato?

They share the cup, all ties for 1st place result in sharing the cup, but Mankato would be seeded 1st in the playoffs based on the tiebreakers.

The MacNaughton is awarded purely on conference points. There are no tie breakers. If MSU and MTU tie they are co-champs. The tiebreakers are for playoff seeding only.

In an interesting twist of fate, NMU, in games that "matter," now gets to play the role of spoiler to MTU's MacNaughton Cup run after years of NMU losses to MTU killing them in the PWR.

Bemidji is currently up 3-1 midway through their game against Mankato, meaning the Beavers will secure the final home ice spot, but help cut MSU's lead over MTU to just a mere point.

Will the MacNaughton be in Bemidji tomorrow night, or in Marquette?

Probably neither...probably wait til playoffs to let teams celebrate on home ice, if it is at one of them, I'd have to guess Bemidji because Mankato only needs 1 point tonight or tomorrow to clinch a share.

Tech can't clinch tomorrow at NMU. If they sweep NMU and Minn St loses tonight, they still will need the final score of tomorrow's game at Bemidji, which starts an hour later, before crowning a champion.

Yes if the home and home schedule was reversed, I'm guessing we'd stick around after senior night celebration to see if they clinched the cup...
