  • >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Roaring into the postseason <<<<<

The old thread locked out, so it's time to close out the season and get ready for the playoffs.

There's no better time than the end of the season to start playing your best hockey. Keep winning now and the missed opportunities of the last 4 months will be quickly forgotten. Heck we might even think of Ruby or Rotolo as the new gold standard of goaltending. ;-)

Here's hoping we get to break in the Polisseni in style with a couple of 2nd round playoff games.

An interesting stat to keep in mind this weekend - Mercyhurst has only won 2 games where the opponent scored 3 or more goals - both against Army. They have a handful of ties, but only 2 wins. It's interesting.

We have also only won two games where the opponent has scored 3 or more goals: one against the bottom team in the conference, one against the top. I don't think it's particularly uncommon to have a stat like that when you're talking about teams that aren't top tier offensively. Canisius also only has 2, Bentley has 3. It's just hard to score 4 or more goals in a tight game these days; it's one thing getting to 4 or 5 goals when you jump out to a lead and the other team has to start taking chances, it's another thing entirely when it's a close game throughout.

With McCabe back from the Sabres, Cameron Burt did not play for the Amerks last night.

The Tigers lost a recruit when Jade McMullen from the AJHL Olds Grizzlys decided to commit to Western Michigan. McMullen has a line of 55gm-33g-20a-53pts. He was among the AJHL scoring leaders all season, 11th in points and 2nd in goals scored.

McMullen had committed to RIT in November 2014.

Is this a first? RIT recruits getting poached by other D1 programs?

No, a couple of years ago Woody Hudson from Greece committed to RIT and pulled out for Cornell, but ended up at St Lawrence.

McMullen was interesting because he looked like a real strong offensive threat, with more goals than assists. The Tigers still have some decent offensive firepower coming in next year.

They are going to need offense considering Garbowsky and McGowen are seniors.

There are two guys coming in that played together last year (2013-2014) for North York in the OJHL.

                      Gabe Valenzuela (5'8" 175lbs) 53gm-34g-42a-76pts
                      5th in scoring 2014-2015

                      Liam Kerins (6'1" 175lbs) 51gm-37g-37a-74pts
                      5th scoring in 2013-2014
Kerins apparently is already at RIT but sat out this season

                      Also out of the OJHL:
                      Abbott Girduckis (6'2" 190lbs) F-Wellington
                      45gm-24g-32a-61pts, 18th in scoring

                      From the CCHL:
                      Erik Brown (6'2" 195lbs) F-Kemptville
                      44gm-29g-36a-65pts, 11th in scoring

Those two have like 90% of goals this year... Some freshman seem promising. But it does hurt when an awesome recruit goes somewhere because of money. I would have done the same. Scholarships... Story of our life.
