Seems to me that this game actually has the Division III attendance record...

The NCAA numbers appear to only include NCAA national tournament games, if you look at the list closely.
2007-2008 ECAC East/NESCAC Interlock Pick 'em winner
      2007-2008 Last Person Standing Winner,
2013-2014 Last Person Standing Winner (tie)
      2016-2017 Last Person Standing Winner

While many are NCAA national tournament games (by their inherent nature), many are not, such as these -

        2,367 Norwich (4) vs. Middlebury (4) (ot), Northfield, Vt. Feb. 4, 2011
        2,348 Norwich (3) vs. Castleton (2), Northfield, Vt. Dec. 2, 2011
        2,300 Norwich (11) vs. Castleton (1), Northfield, Vt. March 3, 2012

I was very skeptical whether the Carrier Dome mark was truly the record. I was going to look up the other outdoor games yesterday, but got distracted with other things in my life.

As noted, the "official" record book doesn't contain every game. Plus, another key missing data point is the 2010 championship in Lake Placid. They never released the attendance (it's shown as "0"), and I always felt they had more people in the stands than 2008. In 2010, the upper level was opened up, and had a fair number of people sitting in it.

[Here's something else I just noticed. The official record book in the D1 column doesn't contain the Frozen Four games in Detroit which would place them third and fourth in that list.]

You don't need to look at the list closely at all to know this is not true.

Overall, the list, both D1 and D3, appears to be very haphazard.

Looks like I didn't look closely enough. I was reading something different I definitely know the Frozen Fenway game is not in that listing, and it should be.
