Alabama-Huntsville and Army look to be locks to make the field, but Princeton and Colorado College return strong squads from last year's epic failures.

What other teams do you think have a shot?

Miami might be a surprise Futile 4 team, and Penn State still looks to be a year or two away from contending for the middle of the Big 6.

[mandatory Miami hate post]

I'll go with Miami.

If the recently released ECAC and HEA pre-season polls are to be believed Princeton and UConn look to be BFB/F4 contenders, but:

Will Ron Fogarty's energy pull Princeton away from the cellar?
How much will UConn's Weakness-of-Schedule numbers suffer as they move to HEA?

Boy this is tough. CC has the lead for the nchc but you never know what team could fall...WMU? There's gotta be another ECAC team that could struggle...I'm not sure who that team would be

I know it's early, but if the season ended today the B1G would have FOUR teams in the field.
That's 2/3 of their conference...not even Atlantic Hockey ever dominated the BFB like that.
Time to break up the B1G.

Wisconsin is coming out of the gates with potential for this bracket. In the end, I think they will be above the futile four.

What's even funnier, Sparty and Bucky would BOTH be #1 regional seeds.

Hard to believe that this thread fell all the way to the third page. So, after this past weekend, Bucky still hanging in there vying with NU Hounds and RPI for a #1 regional seed, trying to catch Huntsville, Lake Inferior State, and Niagara Falls, who have a lock on the other three #1's. But, as they say, a lot can happen between now and season's end.

Prediction: CC will not make the FutileFour field. Instead they will win the NIT equivalency of the FutileFour

RPI will get in for the first time in a while.

I'd LOVE to see 4 "big-can't count" teams make the field, but I fear their combined weakness-of-schedule numbers won't hold up.

RPI now out for sweeping NC; others still very much in.

Ferris State is trying really hard to come in as an upset, but CJ Motte might just single-handedly keep them out. He just can't seem to bring his level of play down to the egregiously bad level his teammates have set.

With four wins, Ferris (Motte) has played themselves out of any hope for the Futile Four this season. Wisco remains only team without a point, so still in lead. NU now has one point, but still without win, so still in contention. Niagara now has a win, and Huntsville a win and two ties, but for now they round out the four leaders. With only four games played, but with only one point, Cornell showing potential to break in.

Is the B1G colluding with Futile Four tournament officials? I sense a conspiracy here.

With the upcoming Huntsville/Lake (Inf/Sup)erior State series this coming weekend, one of those two teams might make a serious case for being including in this tourney at season's end. The other will have to hold on to the hope that they will drop plenty of matches in subsequent play and crawl back into the bevy of contenders. The rematch in mid-February could be a clincher.

With their recent 1-1-2 form, Huntsville is no longer in the bottom 10 for both PWR or RPI. Plenty of season left but on the season-to-date Huntsville does not look like they punched their ticket yet. The Lakers may rip that spot from the Chargers and claim that ticket for their own. Who is is going to be??

All very true; still way too early in the season to be making these predictions, but it is fun, nevertheless.

***OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE***

Pandora OH. The executive committee of the BFB held a rare mid-season emergency meeting last night at Stinky's Bar in rural NW Ohio to consider a procedural question. After a lengthy discussion fueled by Old Milwaukee and Blatz, it was decided that BFB will NOT disqualify a team from consideration simply because they have been banned from post-season play by the NCAA. The issue had arisen over the NCAA's recently announced sanctions against the University of Alaska.
