I understand. I was looking to confirm that the funds were one-time (five years) and didn't establish an endowed fund or position.

My recollection of the paint store rumors at the time is that Hastings decided that he did not want to move his family up there, and I think UNO coughed up a raise for Blais. However in hindsight, given what ultimately transpired, I believe that our AD did not want to close the door on Pearson, and that these interviews were just "national search" formalities.

Blais wasn't coming to coach Tech. He was simply adding a bargaining chip.

That's in Gwoz's price range, FYI.

Honestly, if Mel left, which I don't think he will, I'd be ok with just handing the reigns over to Billy Muckalt.

Actually, $275k is probably a bit light for the Dasher Dancer.

I can't imagine what his annual budget for custom tailored Brooks Bros. in troll size is.

Honest question: What would Billy do that Mel hasn't be able to do? How would he be an improvement over the guy we have now? I realize any coach is better than none, but how would Billy do it differently in order to achieve different results?

I don't think it is so much what he would do that is different but rather he could keep the team on the same path we've been on the last couple years (same system, keep recruits in the pipeline, etc)

So the mighty U of M is looking to hire a coach with a losing record? A coach who hasn't come close to winning his conference? I don't think Mel is anxious to go to the Big Six conference and be the whipping boy for Minnesota and Wisconsin. And trade games in Alaska for games in Columbus and Happy Valley.

Of course, now that Michigan is a basketball school , Mel may go back, work a few years to get his 25 Years plaque, and retire. And since Michigan fans all wear yellow nowadays, he'll feel like he's still at Tech. Go Maize!
