  • Sid Watson 2014

I've gotta think the front runners for this award are Plattsburgh's Mathieu Cadieux, Norwich's Travis Janke, St. Norbert's David Jacobson and Stevens Point's Garrett Ladd.

Normally this award rewards a career more than an individual season and almost always it goes to seniors which thins out the field.

Usually you have to be your conference player of the year to earn finalist status as well.

I'd say cadieux is the front runner but the other three are no slouches.

That's quite a group ! I think it's probably yet to be decided. When exactly is the vote ? After conference tourneys ?

The biggest thing hurting him is he is a junior. MOST of the time it goes to a senior. But, if anyone could buck the trend, Jacobson certainly qualifies.

Impressive for sure. Give it to him next year. Also, not sure if he will be conference player of the year in that league with Adrian. Here's Cadieux's career numbers (at Plattsburgh only):

66 GP, 45-14-6 record, .932 Save Pct., 8 shutouts and 1.72 average and a couple of All-American nods. He's an absolute horse.

Isn't the Sid for the best player in the current season, not a career achievement award?
(Which goes contrary to what Prez said)

In that case, either co-Watson's, or give it to the senior. It's that close. That's why I was wondering when they announce the winner because either one of these guys can go all the way.

Yes it says Player of the Year, but generally in the past it has gone to seniors, which makes it seem like its more an award rewarding a career rather than a single season accomplishment.

Curious on the comment about conference player of the year and Adrian....?
Do you mean compared to Adrian's goalies, or compared to other possible player of the year candidates from Adrian?
I also wonder, for conference player of the year consideration, do the powers that be just evaluate the conference stats, or overall stats, or both?

I was not implying that an Adrian goalie was in the hunt because that's kind of a split deal. I was thinking of their top scorer. He's really a great player. Don't worry, after facing Kyle Jones in the Finals a few years ago, you won't find any self-respecting Cardinal fan underestimating a SNC goalie !! Hopefully, we can get a rematch this year in Lewiston. That could take a day or two to find the back of the net !!
