It's a question of how numbers are represented as 32-bit integers. I would think that most RPI grads here know that such numbers are between -2^32 and 2^32 - 1. When you and I graduated we were still using abacuses (abaci?).

What? they didn't teach you how to count to 31 using only the fingers on one hand?

or how to count to 1,023 using the fingers on both hands?

Technical note: a thumb is included in the category "finger" in the above. You are merely using binary representation.

I really hate to bring this back to hockey, but has there been any word on the injuries to Laliberte and Bradley.
At the game Saturday, it seemed that Neal really missed JL out there. And we will need our best defensemen out there against Cornell and Colgate.

I asked Lali about it and he didn't sound very confident about this coming weekend.
Brandon Pirri: Turk would give it to Jagr. That's awesome! Jagr's untouchable. And he would give it to Jagr.

But even if I could move each toe separately I would only get to 2^20 - 1.

Thanks for the update. Neal is going to have to figure it out. But Tinordi and Fulton really stepped it up last week. So maybe we can still get some offense away from the top line.

....then again, when I asked Tinordi about his injury late last season he told me he felt he would be back before the playoffs

Did you bring enough to share with the class?

Not if you went logarithmic. Use the fingers for mantissa and toes for ordinate and you could get to 1,023 x 10^1,023 which is quite a big number.
