Count me as one of those who has no clue how coaches decide on the order for shootouts and who will be included. I suppose they see things in practice that we never get to see in games(after all how many true breakaways do we get during a game?). DM is in the top 6 in goal scoring for the team so I am also a bit puzzled that he was not included. What is happening , however, is that he is showing a shift from an unselfish playmaker who gets mostly assists(and few penalties) to more of a shooter and goal scorer. It is a bit confusing to me and honestly not sure if he will be a better NCAA player as a goal scorer or a playmaker.

I don't know 10% as much about him as you do, but I would think that because one doesn't have to deal with defense on penalty shots he would excel in them sine he can score. Also he is currently on a hot streak. But his team won, so the coach did something right.

I am not a fan of the shootout under any circumstances, but have been forced to watch them in the NHL. Often i wonder how the coach selects the players he wants to shoot and even moreso, the order in which he places them. I would think you certainly want your best stick handling shooters int he first 2 spots-but then, what do i know? I have noticed that in the NHL lately, the officials have allowed the shooting player to come in on goal at a snail's pace and virtually stop before shooting. This obviously puts the goalie at a great disadvantage. I had though that taking a penalty shot during a game, the player was instructed to pick up the puck at the red line and proceed at a normal pace in on the goalie and either shoot or fake and shoot. In the years I watched hockey previous to this modern era of shootouts-admittedly I did not see a lot of penalty shots-but I never saw anyone come to virtually a complete stop before shooting.

As to DM, in the years at Delbarton, I never considred him a major scoring threat on his own. I felt, if anything, he was more like an Adam oates type of player-passing the puck and setting up much better chances than he himself had. His effectivness was more to open up the ice for the other teammates so they had the better opportunities. The opponent's defensemen also seemed to have to play a little more back on their heels respecting his obvious speed and could not just randomly jump into the play to join the rush-lest they be left a few strides behind as he rushed up ice with a teammate. But that was high school-and admittedly against competition that would never be the same as he moved to the USHL.

                38 shots in one period.

Edit: I wonder if that 38 is correct or they just put some shots that should have been in the first period in the second instead.

I would guess a typo RB. 1st period shots according to that boxscore were, Burlington 0.....TLP 3.
Brandon Pirri: Turk would give it to Jagr. That's awesome! Jagr's untouchable. And he would give it to Jagr.
