Man, I wear a lot of green, so I have to be pretty careful what I wear this week.

Green is such a great color though (as I look at myself, I have blue on.....)!

It may be hammer-and-nail for a rivalry of late, but our rivalry is cool: http://uahhockey.com/blog/2013/10/22...south-rivalry/

Loved the read guys! Got goose bumps remembering some of those games. I only hope this rivalry can get back to the intensity that us "older" fans lived through.

Thank you. I am glad that you and Jack Hittinger at the Bemidji Pioneer liked it. It has a UAH slant, sure, but I didn't want to turn it into a slamfest. I just wanted to honor the past 20 years of two schools with the most unlikeliest of histories.

Besides, I suck at trash talking, so I leave that to Geof.

If I didn't feel so sorry for that lowly little program I would hate them about as much as you do. I just can't bring myself to that level of hatred yet. Perhaps, when they become competitive (in the next fifteen years or so) I will find it in myself to hate them just a bit more.

                        This was an interesting article.

I actually attended one of these games mentioned in the article between UAH and BSU.

I wonder how many people besides all the old CHA school's fans know that the CHA tournament was held in Kearney, NE in both 2003 and 2004 at what was then known as the Kearney Events Center, subsequently as the FirsTier Event Center, and is now known as the Viaero Event Center.

I attended the entire 2003 tournament as I had been in Kearney on business that week and decided to stick around and take it in.

I went in 2004 as well, but with the express intent of going to it, then.

It was quite the oddity around here that a hockey tournament of any kind was being held in Kearney, particularly since no team that was involved was even remotely located close to Kearney. I mean, Kearney is a central Nebraska town of only a bit less than 30,000 (then).

Side note of interest. UNO played an exhibition game in the same facility to start the season in 2001-02 against the University of Manitoba. The only time they've ever played there.

Beside the fact that it was D-1 hockey, I was interested because it involved, at that young age of UNO's program (6 seasons), 5 teams that UNO had played already. In fact, UNO had just played the Beavers in Omaha just prior (a month or so?) to this event. The only team of the bunch that we had yet to play back then was Wayne State and we even got them in, in 2005, before they went kaput.

BSU lost in the title game that year to Wayne State but I seem to remember the Beavers did get a couple guys on the all-tournament team in the losing effort.

The whole time I was at the tournament I remember I kept thinking about what an utterly bizarre location this was for a conference D-1 hockey tournament to be played in.

But it was fun! The thing that sticks out in my mind is that the first day in 2003, BSU played the first day, so the BSU fans that showed up drank the arena out of beer. They thought they had enough on hand for the whole tournament, but they had to have their distributor bring some more in on short notice. They told us they never went through that much in a week or two of Storm Hockey games.

Then next day, they moved the mixed drink cart over to behind our section.......

Okay, so if we really want to push the BSU-UAH Rivalry, BSU Alum Matt Read and the Flyers will take on UAH Alum Cam Talbot and the Rangers tonight. Talbot has been named the starter for tonight with the Rangers, and if you get it, the game will be on the NHL Networks Alternate Channel, at least according to DirecTV.

So BSU and UAH played each other in 19 games over the careers of Read and Talbot. Talbot was in net for 13 of those games and BSU went 12-0-1 in those games. Matt Read had 12 goals and 8 assists in those 13 games.

Hopefully Read will break out of his scoring slump tonight!
