Planning a trip to Bemidji next Friday and to take in that night's game vs. Lake State. I was wondering, would I be safe in buying tickets at the door, or should I go through ticketmaster and reserve a pair?
Also, I'm open to suggestions for places to eat before the game. I'll be with my 11 year old son.
      Thanks!

Against Lake State, you should be fine buying at the door. It'll also save you the Ticketmaster fees. If they were playing the Gophers, UND or maybe Duluth, buying in advance would be worth the $ to guarantee your seats (although note that neither UMinn game earlier this year was a sellout - capacity 4,373).

As to eats, what do you want? Anywhere you go would be fine for an 11 year old. We took out 12 year old to many of the bars I'd suggest (Slim's or Corner for burgers, Keg & Kork for other sandwiches) many times. There's a good Mexican place on the north side of town called Mi Rancho. Dave's Pizza is the go-to pizza place and is owned by Olympic curler Pete Fenson (who's curling today for a spot in the 2014 Olympics). Plus there are a wide selection of chain places. I'm sure Millsy will check in here soon too.
Current NCAA D-I rinks I've been to:

        AHA:
B1G: UMich, MSU, UMinn, Notre Dame, OSU, UWisc
CCHA: BSU, BG, FSU, LSSU, MSU, MTU, NMU
        ECAC:
        HEA: UMass
NCHC: Miami, UMD, UND, SCSU, WMU
        Independant: ASU

Inactive: UAH, ASU, BSU, UMD, UND, NMU, Notre Dame

FWIW I was born and raised in Bemidji. Moved away when I was in my late twenties and I get back as often as I can. I have been to many pizza joints and I have yet to eat a pie that is better than Dave's Pizza.

As a matter if fact, I am in Bemidji to watch them play UAA and we will have a couple of their pizzas delivered this evening.

I agree, Dave's Pizza is a must. Get there early as they tend to fill up fast and the pizzas can take some time. But they are worth it. I am not sure what time they open on Fridays, but it is 5:00 on Saturdays, which is about when you need to be there to get a table and get to a 7:00 game at the Sanford Center. Friday's games are at 7:30, but I would still be there at 5:00.

If you are looking for burgers, the Corner Bar is number one in my book, followed by Slims. Corner is in the Nymore part of Bemidji, just a few blocks from the Sanford Center. Slims in on the north end of town. Also, Bar 209 is supposed to make some good burgers, but I have not had a chance to try them yet as it has always been packed when we have gone to eat and have a few drinks.

Tickets shouldn't be an issue. Just stay away from Row 8 in the arena. It is the row that people like to use as the walkway between sections/get around the arena without having to use the concourse. Most of the Beaver Season Ticket holders sit in the upper half of the arena, rows 9-16. The lower half is okay, but does have some bad sight lines in spots.

Not sure how many are in your party, but they have been offering a Beaver Hockey Family Four Pack. Four tickets and four hot dogs or popcorns for $50, no Ticketbastard Fees. They are only for the pink sections on the seating chart, but well worth it. This would be the end of the arena that the Lakers would shoot at twice. Call Tony at the Sanford Center: 218-441-4018.

              Enjoy the trip!

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I forgot to mention my son is vegetarian, although he will eat fish and seafood. We may hit Dave's if the burger joints don't offer anything to cater his taste.

I am not sure. I know for transfer rules, he has to sit out one year, but I am not 100% sure what his history was last year with Maine and the Junior Leagues.

He suffered an off ice injury before the season began in 2012. He never played for Maine during the 2012-2013 season. That was further compounded by other issues off the ice and was dismissed from the team in early 2013 as I recall. He then began playing for the New Jersey Hitmen. It was my understanding that after Bemidji picked him up that he would be eligible in the second semester 2014.

It sounds like Parker will be eligible at the start of Spring Semester, at least that is how it was sounding on Saturday's TV Broadcast.

Just got back from the Beavers-Miami game. We were down 4-1 after 27 minutes and I was thinking, the Redhawks were back into their preseason #1 role, then all of a sudden we knocked in 3 straight goals to tie this thing, the last one with 43 seconds left. Both teams had some shots in overtime but couldn't convert. Great comeback for the Beavers. Hope we can sustain the momentum.
