Heard from Dr. Demento this morning. He and Jen are fine. No power. No nothing. No gas. Maybe another week in the dark. He says they've burned through 3 cords of wood. Cooking in the fire place. Got plenty of food. Plenty of adult beverages. I e-mailed back that it sounds like a weekend in New England. A very long weekend, to be sure.

Well it's pretty hard not to be pleased about 10 points in the team's first six games. I'll be curious to see how they play in their first road series next weekend. I would surely love to see 4 points against the Land Cows.

A lot to feel good about tonight. Coming out with fire in the belly would be at the top of the list. As would Knowlton's hattie. Makowski continues to impress. It's easy to see how his absence coming down the stretch last year really hurt. And after giving up what looked like a softie, "Juicy" settled in nicely and made several really spectacular saves.

I have invested in some cool camera gear and was trying it out to get the lighting down at Magness. I learned a couple of things. 1) If you think that the lighting at DU sucks for watching a game, try photographing a game. You can never get the white balance right. The lighting sucks. 2) If you bring a pro camera and lens to a game, the DU photog gastapo will eventually find you. I was shut down in the second period. But, I learned what I needed to learn without a press credential. Next time, I'll get one and not have to shoot through a darn puck prevention net. Here's Nick Shore shooting that went into the net. Too bad I didn't get the tickling of the twine.

Rakhshani and Salazar are doing well in Europe.
Salazar 7GP 1-7-8 first on Frisk Asker
Rakhshani 16GP 5-8-13 tied for first on HV71

Doubt if Rakhshani or Salazar are common names in Sweden or Norway

Yeah...that whole situation sucked. My influence with the Gestapo is limited even though they sought my input though ultimately ignored it. I tried. Gimme a minute and we'll get ya straight, Mr 14ers...

Why the blank would they put the kabash on your camera?? That's dumb. They used to not allow camcorders either; but thanks to the advent of cell phones with video capability, they haven't found a way to stomp those out....yet. Another thing I find interesting - NO fan is allowed to transmit or recount the game without the permission of DU. Yet, they beg people to post stuff on Facebook and Twitter, and will even feature you on the jumbotron.

DU has always led the league in doing its best to make certain nobody has a good time. That's one tradition they have always enthusiastically embraced, more's the pity.

I am back. Still no power, heat or hot water in the house. Have to charge the cell phone every couple of hours as all it does is roam with most cell towers not working. Made it to work today and am enjoying the electric and heat. Thanks to DG and the generator he sent, I have lights at night, can watch DVDs and charge the phones. Due to the problems with being able to get gas, I only run the generator when I need to. As such, I don't have the refrigerator hooked up as I would run out of gas much more quickly. I have a cooler with ice bags in it for a minimal amount of perishables. I waited 2.5 hours on Friday night in the cold and wind to fill up my 5 gallon gas container. My oldest son waited 2 hours yesterday to refill it. Luckily I filled all the cars before the storm and we are limiting our use of them so as to not have to wait on miles long lines to gas up the cars. The gas stations have separate lines for cars and those with gas cans. I take the train to work and it was pretty good this morning. One guy at the office lives in Long Beach, Long Island. He has pictures and videos of Sandy destroying the boardwalk and flooding the neighborhood. His car is totaled from being immersed in salt water. Luckily his apartment is above the first floor and got no damage in it. His lobby has 3 feet of sand in it and the plate glass windows are all broken out. He evacuated and doesn't know when he will be able to return to live in his apartment. This is the worst storm I have ever been through. I have not seen a LIPA (the local utility) truck in my neighborhood yet. I have no idea when I will be getting power back although the news reports indicate that they expect to have those without damaged homes to have power back sometime this week. Who knows?

Ahh, the benefits of the work place--heat, electricity, and access to the internet!
Glad things are getting better even if it is little by little.

We missed you this weekend, but you only missed one good game.
The other one....:(:(:(

Who knows?I've been through three Hurricanes plus a couple of near misses in Houston. Lost power twice, but never for more than a couple of days.

I hosted friends & their two kids who lost their home in Katrina for four months. Another friend of mine lost his house several years ago and will finally finish his rebuilt home around 2013.

My brother had to sue his insurance company to get a settlement.

The people in the East Coast who suffered damage are in for years of battles, heartache and misplaced lives.
