    A DEVILISH DELIGHT: ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY TAKES OVER THE #1 SPOT


    UNION LAKE, MI – For the first time in school history, the Arizona State University Sun Devils are the #1 ranked team in the country, receiving 29 out of 46 first-places votes to claim the top spot in the 2012-2013 ACHA Men's Division 1 Ranking #6. Arizona State, with an 11-0-0 record, is the only undefeated team left in the country. The Sun Devils will put their #1 ranking and 26-game winning streak over arch-rival Arizona to the test this weekend at the Madhouse on Main Street in Tucson, AZ. #2 Ohio University, which held the top spot the last 4 weeks and received 17 first-place votes, dropped its first game of the year on the road at Liberty University, though the Bobcats did manage to split the tightly contested series with a win on Friday.

    #3 Adrian and #4 Minot State stood pat this week, while Robert Morris Illinois achieved its highest ranking in school history, jumping up a couple of spots and coming in at #5. The Eagles now sport a 9-1-1 record on the season. The Oklahoma Sooners remained in the #6 spot, while the Oakland Golden Grizzlies tumbled two spots and came in at #7. Rounding out the top 10 were #8 Illinois, #9 Davenport, and #10 Lindenwood.

    This week’s big mover-and-shaker was Niagara University, which jumped up three spots to #22. The Purple Eagles now sport an overall record of 8-2-0. Lebanon Valley, with a record of 7-1-0, makes its first appearance in team history in the ACHA rankings coming in at #25. The Flying Dutchmen are now in their 3rd season of ACHA competition, having previously played in the NCAA Division III ranks.

    Over the past ten seasons, 8 different schools have won the ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championship: Lindenwood (2), Illinois (2), Davenport, Delaware, Oakland, Ohio, Penn State, and Rhode Island.

    Beginning its 22nd season of action, there have been a total of 10 schools that have won the ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championship:

    55 teams will compete for this year's title. Two teams from last season are now playing NCAA varsity hockey: Penn State University (NCAA DI) and the State University of New York at Canton (NCAA DIII)

    The seventh ranking of the regular season will be released on Friday, November 9.

    The 2013 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships will be hosted March 1-6 by Robert Morris University Illinois at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, IL. This will be the second year of the 20-team format.
