I've noticed that the predictor seems to give a large advantage (too big in my opinion) to home teams. Though apart from any measurable stats, I think Maine may be a good upset pick. UNH has only won (or scored for that matter) at home. Maine is a tough place to play they are starving for a win. Should be a much better game than a lot of people are expecting. I could see a 2-1 game going Maine's way. Or it could be the 4-0 New Hampshire win most people expect.

Home ice is part of the algorithm, but again is tied to the team playing at home (and team playing on the road) over a period of time (for example, if Team A is 10-0-0 at home in the time frame used, while Team B is 0-10-0 on the road in the time frame used, there will be a significant home ice advantage for Team A in a hypothetical Team B @ Team A matchup.).

There were some tough picks this week. for instance the Miami- FSU series. You might ordinarily pick Miami, but this is a saturday game.If Miami does as expected and wins friday, then one could see FSU coming out harder on saturday, at home, with, I would expect, a fairly lively crowd. Makes it a lot tougher to pick a Miami sweep than just a win friday.

On the RPI game. Ordinarily I wouldn't pick RPI, but they have improved over last year, and are at home. A toss up game if you ask me, and the BU UND series. Again, UND is at home, but it's a friday game against a good team. And UND did not distinguish itself last weekend.

so I thought this week was especially difficult to pick. With maybe the exception of the DU vs St Cloud series.

How did The Predictor come up with Maine?

As for today's games, the predictors favored Miami over Ferris State 28-9, Denver over SCSU 33-4, and Harvard over Yale 29-8.
