  • UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Well, figured with just over a week till the pre-season game, and two weeks till the home opener against Vermont ... I'd start up this thread and give people about two weeks to put in their regular season (both Hockey East and overall) record predictions.

There's still a lot of ifs that need to be answered (Can Carr repeat/better last year?, can the freshmen jump in and play?, can Wilson avoid a sophomore jinx?, etc), but if the majority are answered positively, this could be a very fun year for UML fans.

I personally see Wilson being a star again this season. Along with Wallin. Carr might be around the same, but I guess that will somewhat depend on Ruhwedel and the defense as well. Sinitsyn will be a player to watch as well. I am super excited!

The only butterflies I have is in regards to whether or not they come out with similar intensity and heads up play. The last time we were "supposed to be good" I noticed we were off, quickly.

I haven’t been this excited for a season in a while, **** expectations. After the opening game with Vermont it is going to be tough early on with the trip out west followed by series with BC, Maine and 1 with UNH. Something like a 4-3 start is very possible but I don’t think we should panic if that happens as the schedule softens up a bit through November and December.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

I for one am excited for the season. Not only because we are getting decent press and some respect in the polls, but because I think the Tsongas will have a good energy. Now, I don't have as much UML history as some (2003 until now) but last year I thought was one of the most energetic years I have ever been witness to. With the team being ranked high to start the season, and the first game not being played in Nashua, I think this season should start with similar crowds from the student body and UML alumni. With the big pushes through social media, I think UML and its student body will continue to rally around their teams (not only the hockey team). I am jealous that I am no longer a student and am officially an alumni.

If the NHL keeps screwing around, I think the crowds will bloat even more because of that, as Lowell is in a good position in the region to capture hockey fans missing out on the Bruins.

I would hope that seeing a recent year on the NCAA tourney banner will keep team looking forward and not behind. I do hope that they look to Vermont as a league game and not as a cupcake game and get a nice home win to send them off to Colorado on a good note.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

I think a lot of the worry that we have here (and on the last thread) is about how this team will react to being so highly ranked, due to what we saw in the past ... the team would start getting recognition and would just flame out the next weekend.

I have a feeling, and at this point, it's just that ... Coach Bazin won't allow that. I think he's going to make them focus on one game at a time, he won't let them get ahead. And now having some depth going into this season, if a player chooses to take a game off, you can sit him and not worry too much about his backup.

Agree. They did a nice job last season of taking it one game at a time and avoiding extended losing streaks. If they can do the same thing this season they should be ok.

My hope is that since the veterans know what to expect playing in a Norm Bazin system for a year will help making this year just as successful. Going with the high tempo game that they had last year was a complete 180 from the style Blaise had them playing. Hopefully an offseason of proper conditioning will help in the success of this season. We all saw how worn down the team got late in games against bigger, physical teams.

Probably why the incoming class is bigger.

Watched UML recruits Stenglein and Shea today on FastHockey.com and they looked great. Fast and great hockey minds. Shea had an assist for NH and Stenglein had 4 shots and a -1. Stenglein is aggressive and willing to not back down. UML type of players for sure. Looking forward to the future of the River Hawks!
