And let's say he did attempt to disregard the policy, why would the board of regents say no when they had no problem playing Florida State? My whole point here has been that Minnesota has a policy that it applies at times and ignores at other times. You seem to think I am on some sort of witch hunt against Lucia and I am not. Don't get mad at me because your University is inconsistent and I'm pointing it out.
I'm not mad at you. Let's not pretend that all schools are created equal. UND is no Florida State. The NCAA grated Florida State a waiver given to continue to use their name and imagery. UND had no such waiver and the U had no grounds on which to allow games to be scheduled. If UND and the NCAA had worked out an agreement that allowed them to continue to use the Sioux and and imagery you can be sure that something would have been done. It would appear that UND was screwed by the refs (NCAA) again. Blaming Minnesota is just unfounded. Hakstol should have resolved the mascot issue earlier.
Bottom Line: If you deserve to win the national championship then don't worry about who you play, when, and where. Just keep winning.
Exception: You are right about the refs. They, no doubt, have it in for <insert your team name here>!

      That's timely.

Few, if any, college hockey programs have benefitted more from that adage than UND and their spineless capitulation to Ralph Engelstad and his $$$$$'s.

      Wow.

      Just...wow.

I addressed FSU having a waiver from the NCAA already. Some of the games took place before the NCAA issued its' decree of Native American nicknames thus Minnesota only had its' own policy to go on. The other games that I referenced were almost certainly scheduled before the NCAA issued its' decree, so again Minnesota only had its' own policy to go on.

There are many ways to help in-state hockey.

Mankato State played a home game against the Gophers at the X that added 150K to their coffers that they wouldn't normally get playing in Mankato.

But that's beside the point. Fact is the mascot issue STILL isn't resolved.

Until your own house is in order, quit blaming someone else for the way they run theirs.

The issue is resolved and when it is Minnesota's fault he is free to speak the truth.

Does that mean they shouldn't support them moving forward? I don't think so. Especially now that BSU's program is having financial issues. And by the way, Minnesota fought hard to get BSU admitted into the WCHA. Ask anyone in the BSU administration. Sorry, but BSU is the more important rivalry.

What reason does Lucia have to lie? He has already said he doesn't care who doesn't like it, he is going to do what's best for the U of M. All the Sioux fans who were crying about the logo can now move on to crying about this.

It's really too bad we aren't playing UND for 4 years(probably will meet in NCAA's most years though if selection committee has it's way) I would rather watch that series than Kato or Bemidji or Northeastern... yawn.
Minnesota has always been about supporting in-state hockey. And the strength of in-state hockey has benefited the Gophers greatly thruought their history. You have to look at the big picture. Sure, the BSU rivalry isn't as fun or intense, but it is more important. Ensuring the stability of the other in-state programs so our kids have as many opportunities to play at the next level as possible is more important than any OOC rivalry.

Wow, lots of tears being shed by the Whioux fans over this schedule issue. Where is that Whioux poster with his big box of tissues? Maybe he should stick around the Forks with it.

Lots of Minnesota fans excusing their University for being two-faced horrible peoples.

North Dakota's inability to get their house in order is Minnesota's fault? We all know Hakstol was dragging out the mascot issue to find a way to avoid playing Minnesota.

Everything is Minnesota's fault. But you are combining two separate issues into one. You should take a few reading comprehension courses.

At least Gopher fans are done arguing with me about the FSU/Native American Policy as they've finally come to accept that I'm right.

                              Funny you should mention that.
Hakstol, who had been a staunch nickname supporter, said Wednesday it's time to move on without the nickname and the decades-old controversy. He doesn't believe the NCAA will back down on sanctions against the school, and thinks the Big Sky Conference will dump UND if it uses the nickname. The school has been accepted into the Big Sky for sports other than hockey.

                                No, it isn't:

Fighting Sioux nickname appeal to be heard Feb. 14

A hearing has been set for Feb. 14 in St. Paul on Fighting Sioux nickname supporters’ appeal of a judge’s dismissal of their lawsuit against the NCAA.

Pro-nickname members of the Spirit Lake and Standing Rock Sioux nations last year appealed U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson’s dismissal of their lawsuit to the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Attorneys for the NCAA and for Spirit Lake’s pro-nickname Committee for Understanding and Respect have indicated they will appear before a three-judge panel assigned by the appeals court to hear the case.

The committee, joined by Standing Rock Sioux member Archie Fool Bear, had filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court on Nov. 1, 2011, alleging violations of contract law and federal civil rights laws and demanding reversal of the NCAA policy against use of American Indian names and imagery by member schools.

Committee and NCAA lawyers argued the issue in Fargo before Judge Erickson, who dismissed the suit in early May 2012. The Spirit Lake committee and Fool Bear filed notice of appeal at the end of May.

In mid-June, just three days after state primary election voters overwhelmingly endorsed retirement of the nickname, the Spirit Lake committee told the appeals court that the Sioux people had been denied “a seat at the table” as the controversial issue worked through state and federal courts, the North Dakota Legislature and NCAA governing bodies.

After the primary election vote, the State Board of Higher Education directed UND to retire the historic nickname and Indian head logo, which it has done. UND athletic teams have since competed as “North Dakota” and “UND” while it complies with a state-imposed nickname moratorium until 2015.

In a written brief filed with the appeals court last August, the NCAA said the plaintiffs lack standing to sue, “however sincere (their) antipathy toward the NCAA,” and their appeal “is as procedurally improper as it is futile.”

Reed Soderstrom, a Minot attorney representing the Spirit Lake committee and Fool Bear, responded that the NCAA had not engaged the committee’s arguments, “relying instead on a barrage of unmeritorious claims regarding pleading, standing and statutes of limitation.”

As in previous filings and arguments, Soderstrom and the committee rely heavily on a 1969 naming ceremony conducted at UND by Sioux elders, the significance of which has been a matter of dispute.
