Post This Week in ECAC Hockey: Nov. 20, 2008

This has been an enjoyably baffling couple of weeks so far, with a number of bipolar teams making solid assessment practically impossible. Harvard is 4-2-1 and atop the standings, but has played more games than anyone else, and lost back-to-back games at RPI and Union two weeks ago. Princeton and Cornell reside in the third and fourth seats from the front, which was to some extent expected, but ...

To our esteemed USCHO ECACHL reporter......

No disagreement from this SLU fan on your picks in Canton this weekend. Although we are "hopeful"..... we are not "stupid". Princeton is a very talented team. Normally they don't screw up too much over the course of a game but when they do.......well, then there is Kalemba to deal with.

We will resort to our usual assortment of hopes and tricks this weekend. The long ride, getting their bus stuck in the mud (or snow, or ice...you pick 'em), poisining their team at Pizza Hut or Sergi's, turning the heat up or down in their locker room...you know the usual stuff. If all else fails we are forever optimistic that this senior laden team sprinkled with freshman will come out on fire and be very, very hungry after last weekends debacle.

"Princeton @ Clarkson
Good spot to pick the mild upset, but the Knights are all kinds of banged up right now and the Tigers … well … aren't. Advantage reigning champs, 3-2."

The question is... Which reigning champs? Tournament Champions or Regular Season Champions. I'm banking on the upset!

At the risk of understatement, Princeton is a pretty classy institution. It's coaches shoud reflect that quality. Gadowsky at least in this instance did not.

Alford? Ornelas? Methinks that you are a year late.

Ha. This is what you get when you finish off a column after midnight. (To be fair, I think I was using the only media guide that RPI had online, which was apparently last year's.)

Indeed this year's media guide is not online, although they have put this year's women's guide on the website. A few previous ones are also online.

I would list the additions from this year, but my copy of this year's guide has wandered into my desk at work.

I checked the 08-09 RPI Media Guide. They left Alford and Ornelas in also. The only new name added was Rabbani (rah-BAHN-ee). I see that you have that now.

Maybe I was using this year's after all! Not my fault! Haha... sweet vindication.
