NCAA Rounds Out Championships Until 2011
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The NCAA Ice Hockey Committee has set the sites for the NCAA Championships all the way through 2011 with the announcement of the West and Midwest Regionals for 2010 and 2011. In 2010, Notre Dame will host the Midwest regional from March 27-28 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind. and the West regional will be hosted by Minnestoa at the Xcel Energy ...

I don't like it. If they're going to choose neutral buildings with NHL-sized rinks, it's always going to be the same rinks that get chosen. I would rather see a new rink, as opposed to the Xcel Energy Center in 2010 AND 2011!!

Agree
Why favor NHL size rinks? A few years ago we were favoring Olympic size rinks.
Move it around.

Re: NCAA Rounds Out Championships Until 2011
are you kidding me? why move it around, when you do that you move hockey out of where it belongs, the northren midwest. Moving it around you get places like this year, D.C. really when has hockey ever been in D.C. then in a couple years its in Flordia??? if your going to move it around rotate where hockey is popular, where the fans are the best. Oh yeah and about that xcel comment, the XCEL Energy Center is the best hockey arena in the nation, and its in the state of hockey, so i say play there as much as you can.

Re: NCAA Rounds Out Championships Until 2011
My only concern with NHL rinks for regionals is when you view the game on TV the arena will look half empty due to the size of the venue. How many people are going to travel to St. Louis for a regional. Maybe there needs to be some incentive for the NCAA to award these sites like the guarantee that a local program near the arena will start a D-1 program. There is only one D-1 program in Indiana and none in Illinois, so why Fort Wayne? I have always said that Valparaiso should start a program - good D-1 basketball history, proximity to Chicago, South Bend and Michigan. just a thought?

Illinois? Illinois is further from Fort Wayne than Ohio, and the Michigan Cities of Kalamazoo, Lansing, Detroit or Ann Arbor. Don't forget the three D-1 programs in Ohio! In fact, in addition to host Notre Dame, WMU, MSU, Bowling Green, Miami University and the University of Michigan are all less than two hours from Fort Wayne. OSU and Detroit are less than 2 1/2 hours away. Ferris State is a little further. ND has the right to host and Fort Wayne is better than South Bend. It's a great location for the CCHA, 8 of 12 programs in easy driving distance.

I think they move it around so that no one team gets the advantage of having it in their city every year. Do you suppose the defending national champions would agree with you that hockey "belongs" in the northern Midwest? Your right hockey probably isn't huge in D.C. or Florida but those cities offer a neutral site so that none of the teams participating have the advantage of not traveling. Oh yeah and about the Xcel comment, the Xcel Energy Center is not the best arena in the nation, and it is in the self proclaimed state of hockey. The nicest hockey arena in the nation on every level is in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Re: NCAA Rounds Out Championships Until 2011
Other than being an insufferable, depressing toilet, Ft. Wayne isn't bad, location-wise. And I'm also iffy on a regional being held in, not only an NHL rink, but in St. Loser. Next time, just have it in Gary.

Re: NCAA Rounds Out Championships Until 2011
Moving the sites around is the way to go, but the root of everything is money...meaning the sites are typically going to be centered around places that have good fan turnouts and money-making possibilities. Certain sites that have been chosen many would deem "not the greatest" for a regional or championship to take place in are probably attempts to increase fan base or perhaps possibilities to become another possible "great" location.
