Post Porter, Gerbe, Jones Make Up Hobey 'Hat Trick'

The Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation on Tuesday announced the three Hobey Hat Trick finalists for the 2008 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, honoring college hockey's top player. Alphabetically, they are: Nathan Gerbe, junior forward from Boston College; Ryan Jones, senior forward from Miami; and Kevin Porter, senior forward from Michigan. The three finalists were selected from the initial list ...

Re: Porter, Gerbe, Jones Make Up Hobey 'Hat Trick'

I totally respect all three players that made the "Hat Trick" but I think it is an absolute injustice the Jean Philippe Lamoureux was excluded from the top three. Porter was a sure shot for this group. I would like to hear from the committee as to why JPL is out. His performance over the weekend should have cemented him in this group.

I could not agree more. I cannot understand why JPL is not a finalist.... I'm just shell-shocked right now.

The Rink Rat was correct. I can not believe JP, which single handedly kept UND alive, was not in the top 3.

When the Rink Rat made his predictions, I shook my head as to his reasoning..
Hockey East has always had player in the mix...

Oh well. On the plus side, I bet JPL would trade a Hobey for a Championship Ring. So, that is my prediction.

I'm disappointed, but not surprised. J.P.L. certainly deserved to be one of the top three candidates. The surprise is probably that Ryan Duncan actually won it last year.

I know I am in the minority here, but given what the Hobey is supposed to represent, I think the wrong Boston School forward is in the final three. I realize he was somehow omitted from the final ten, but Peter MacArthur of BU represented what Hobey is all about on and off the ice in terms of superior play on the ice and leadership and stewarship and sholarship that comes with his years of experience and his leading BU through crises off the ice.

SCOTT

and as you can tell from my screen name , my fave college hockey player of all time is Blake Belllefeuille of BC so you can hardly say this is an anti BC pick

I agree completely with this. No way should JPL not make the hat trick. This is from a Gopher fan. Knock out Jones, put in Lammy.

Re: Porter, Gerbe, Jones Make Up Hobey 'Hat Trick'

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This may be my last post on this board or anywhere, as I am about to commit heresy....

Ryan Jones should not be in the top three....I, am Miami grad student, have actually admitted it! I've watched this guy for four years and I can tell you he is not a Hobey Finalist. He's a big, fast skater that can change the mo with rough, physical play, but there are just way too many holes in this guy's game: can't pass on a fast break, inaccurate wrist and slap shots (on display in NCAA's) and at times, he focuses more on the contact than gaining control of the puck. If there were not the opportunity of garbage points, this guy would have finished four years with about 35 points.

This doesn't mean I don't like him, because I do. But you think about HB winners as creating fear in the other players because of thier skill-set. That's just not Jones - Davis, yes. Jones no.

Re: Porter, Gerbe, Jones Make Up Hobey 'Hat Trick'

Ridiculous, the committee continues to baffle me. They will probably give it to Gerbe because he is small like Duncan and give those reasons also. JPL deserved to be a final 2 canidate with Porter. He posts those ridiculous stats and because a Sioux player won the award last year, which I am sure is the real reason he got dissed.

Here is some funny logic, 6 teams from the WCHA make the postseason (a record). Clearly the strongest conference this year from their own rankings and the guy who dominates the league and nation in goaltending gets shat on.

Right....because here are the conference records in this year's NCAA's:

WCHA = 3-5 (1-3 vs. non-WCHA teams) - 6 teams in/1 remains
CCHA = 5-2 (4-1 vs. non-CCHA teams) 4 teams in/2 remains
Hockey East = 2-1 (2-1 vs. non-HE teams) 2 teams in/1 remains

this tells me that, by numbers, CCHA was the best conference this year, NOT THE WCHA!!!!!

your statement was simply ignorant!
