Re: Tourney Thoughts
Dave,nice column.
Yeah, the home-ice travesty that still exists in college hockey is an ongoing farce. It didn't work for CC tonight, but it certainly hasn't hurt Michigan or Minnesota in the very recent past...And,it won't work against them in the coming years, either,if I've read the schedules right...Call me Pollyanna, but I don't think that any team should have that advantage on the national stage.
NCAA-hoops doesn't stoop to that anymore, but only because too many people placing too many wagers preclude that sort of an obvious and cynical approach on their part.(Sure,North Carolina gets to play in-state,but not on their home court.Guess that's some progress.)Clearly, though, the NCAA thinks that college hockey is too much a small-timer to worry much about having a level playing field in place.
Penny-wise and pound-foolish thinking,IMO,'cause the gate any any given hockey venue is no more than another drop or two in the bucket of the NCAA's overflowing coffers.Perhaps a tip of the hat to integrity should be in order?
