MN v. Holy Cross

Well here it is. Game on!

Should be an easy game, but we've all heard that before. Can the Gophers right the ship that was destroyed this past weekend? Can HC become the Cinderella team of the 2006 tourney?

Let's get it on!

You don't waste any time do you?

Oh, and go Holy Cross!!! (Sorry, family members are alum of that fine institution of learning.) And not having seen Holy Cross play, I cannot comment on their chances against MN.

Well, they'll probably stay an extra day or two and go sightsee-nevermind.

Re: MN v. Holy Cross

Are there ANY Holy Cross fans out there?

MN 5 HC 1. Cakewalk. MN is now on a mission after their embarrassing performance at the F5.

Briggs(ave) would have the shutout, but he gets bored with how the game is going and lets a shot in from past mid-ice while talking to some fans behind the goal.

Re: MN v. Holy Cross

This is a HC team that is not unfamiliar with the NCAA's. Just 2 years ago they played North Dakota respectfully before losing 3-0 out in Colorado. The ND fans will remember them and all be pulling for HC so any home ice advantage on a WCHA rink is gone for MN. They are coming to try and win and not just put up a close game vs. MN. The oldtime BC fans would like nothing more than to beat BU and then take on HC in the Frozen 4.

Re: MN v. Holy Cross

just so you know. it gonna be hard to see this game on TV. unless you have the directv sports pack or the Fox Sports Package, as FSN North won't be broadcasting this game live, they have the Wolves at Toronto game on.

anyone know if any other channel will pick this game up.

Re: MN v. Holy Cross

The atmosphere in Grand Forks didn't help UND much in their past meetings with MN this year, so it's not going to do much for the holy rollers, either.

MN wins by eight(y).

ESPNU - whatever that is - will broadcast it on tape delay.

I think you are making a rather large assumption there about the score. I went to HC, and they've had a good season. I expect Minnesota will win; they've been one of the best teams in college hockey this year. But I don't think it will be as easy as you believe. Quesada is a great goalie and the team is playing very well, and has some veteran leaders. HC went 4-2 in out of conference games this year, beating Dartmouth, RPI (twice) and UMass. They played Ohio State tough, and had a bad game against UNO. I'm guessing MN, 4-1.

Actually, and, not so much hockey-related, as it's NCAA related, but when Bemidji State went to Amherst last year, as soon as the team lost, since the NCAA provided the jet to get the Beavers out east, and secured the hotel rooms, they pretty much told the team to pack it up and head to the air-port... No chance at staying an extra day, as it would save the NCAA big-$$$ to cancel those hotel rooms. So, even though you ment it as a joke, don't count on any sight-seeing for HC if they lose Friday...

Re: MN v. Holy Cross

Could losing to the BADgers have been the game plan for tDon? Now we get to play HC instead of what was sure to have been a psycho crazy crowd full of BSU fans?

Could the close loss to SCSU and then a 4-0 shut-out to the BADgers be Deja' Vu from a similar weekend earlier this season a week before heading up to the Ralph?

Will the Gophers come out on a mission terrorizing HC and destroy them with no mercy?

Will the Gophers get to meet Michigan once again and give even more payback for the mid/late 90's ??

Oh, and one final question....will the complaining of "home ice" advantage die now since the Gophers are winless the past two seasons at the Final 5? I already know the answer is no and will stay that way if the Gophers don't win a game the next two as well.

And UND fans are being accused of overlooking Michigan.......

Minnesota should win this one. But the day will come that one of these 15-16 seeds will get a shocking upset. The best bet for this is the favored team running into a goalie that plays absolutely out of his mind. I just hope its not my team when it happens.

Not I, said Scooby.

Scooby is not overlooking the Holy Cross. In fact Scooby fears the Holy Cross.

Meanwhile, all UND fans have talked about today is playing Minnesota.

For once I'm glad I'm in Madison. They're actually showing all the Mid-west and West regional games. Thank God the Bucks don't play and all the highschool tourneys are over and there's no reruns of cheerleading championships or brewers pre-preseason shows or...

Re: MN v. Holy Cross

I highly recommend the DirecTV Sports Pack (I should be getting a frakkin' commission for this )

I listened to the Holy Cross game last night on the 'net and the announcers were talking during commercials (the net feed doesn't have commercials ) about packing the winter gear and not wanting to have to break it out again for a trip to Grand Forks

What sight-seeing is there to do in North Dakota?

Tony Quesada, the HC goaltender, is from Maine and I coached him for two years in high school. He's a solid keeper - not as flashy as the WCHA fans are used to seeing - but he is consistent. He's 60-32-8 (.640) in his career and this year had a 2.18GAA (11th in the NCAA) and a .928 save% (4th in the NCAA). He won't be overwhelmed by the setting (he was in goal in the NCAA game in Colorado) and should be able to keep the team in the game. If he plays up to his potential and the Gophers have an off night, they could be going home early.

But after watching that SCSU/Minnesota shootout Friday night, I think the Gophs will be able to outskate the Crusaders, throw a ton of shots on net and eventually wear them down. I expect a close, low-scoring game. Something like 2-0 or 3-1.
