Here's the link from the local paper.

Its not so much I'm disappointed by Skinner leaving. I thought he had some potential, but it didn't look like he was ever going to crack one of the top two lines. But given the injuries, this came at a bad time.

"Kingston offered him an educational package so his schooling will be taken care of. This is one of those situations where this (decision) is probably best for both of us.''

Skinner made the trip with MSU to Cornell last weekend, but did not play in either game. He left on Monday for Kingston, which is east of Toronto, and could not be reached for comment.

As a freshman, Skinner played in 20 of the Spartans' 41 games and had no goals and four assists.

"Peder is the type of player who needs to play high in your lineup and in power-play situations, and he just couldn't get that here,'' Comley said.

Is Comley saying that the even with the injuries, Skinner is not talented enough to break into the special teams?

To me, Skinner always seemed to not have enough skill to survive at his size. He was never the fastest player on the ice, never the most skilled with the puck, and never seemed to have a great scoring touch. If you're going to play forward at 5'8" 160, you need to have some of these qualities to be successful.

I thought he was a pretty good player, but he was never going to be better than a member of the third line, if not stuck on the 4th line for his career.

I wish him the best of luck. It's hard to lose a player right now while the injury situation at MSU is so bad (even if he wasn't going to dress, he was another guy on the ice during practice), but I understand why he decided to leave.

I think Comley was speaking long term. Skinner just didn't get it, and even this year he looked lost.

Skinner is a player who needs to be matched with other playmakers to be able to excel, and his speed of development to the college hockey game was so slow that it would be unfair to the other playmakers to pair them with Skinner.

Comley certainly tried everything he could to bring out the prolific playmaker in Skinner, including pairing him last year with Jimmy Slater for a brief stint.

Bottom line is this is a win/win for both parties long term.

In the short term, we could have used Skinner's body, but his head was light years behind...

Special teams, he didn't even dress for the games last weekend.
