My Company Sucks
Merge with P&G to set up the loss of thousands of jobs for the Company and then spend stupid money on this
The Gillette Company Says It With Diamonds For David Beckham
15-Jun-2005
-- Diamond Encrusted M3Power Razor Presented to the “Face of Gillette” for Father’s Day --
LONDON, June 16, 2005, The Gillette Company has commissioned Jacob Arabo of Jacob & Co. to design a one-of-a-kind 4.5 carat diamond encrusted M3Power razor as the ultimate Father’s Day gift for footballer and international style icon David Beckham. The renowned jeweller-to-the-stars gave the best-selling M3Power razor an elaborate makeover to ensure that David Beckham will shave in style on Father’s Day, June 19.
The razor features two rows of white diamonds and one row of extremely rare green diamonds. To complete the transformation, the end of the razor has been finished in solid white-gold. Valued at $50,000, it is the most extravagant product The Gillette Company has ever had commissioned.
“I am really delighted with this razor,” said David Beckham. “To have an M3Power customized for me is amazing and for Gillette to give it to me for Father’s Day is a lovely gesture.”
Michele Szynal, director of brand communications says, “David Beckham is the ultimate style icon and a great dad. What better way to help him celebrate Father’s Day than to give him the closest shave with the coolest Gillette razor in the world.”

Re: My Company Sucks
What's worse? The $50k razor or the millions they pay him each year in endorsements?
That $50k "gift" to Beckham just gave Gillette free press coverage in every country on the face of the earth. That marketing value is priceless.

Re: My Company Sucks
Pfff... that would only be enough to keep one or two people employed. Big deal. This way, Becks can keep his skin smooth, soft, and supple for Hobart Higgins. Who wouldn't want to give up a year of wages to give HH a lifetime of happiness?

Re: My Company Sucks
I agree with DTP here. Sure it's completely over the top, but that's a relatively cheap marketing campaign.

Re: My Company Sucks
Well I'm sure some moron marketing genious came up w/ the idea justifying it by figuring the 50K spent on it will bring in far more revenue then what's being spent by the free media exposure and thus advertising it will generate.
Not sure I'd agree but then again, here it is on a college hockey thread. Positive or negative it gets the brand name recognition in people's head - as for the results it produces.....

Re: My Company Sucks
boo hoo. that is life in the big leagues kid. companies are bought, sold, and go under on a daily basis. besides, didn't the Globe recently report that the dumpy Gillette plant near Post office Square is remaining open?
when you are an employee, it is the plant that is most important: the immediate needs of the individual employee. when you are an investor, you deserve profit which is derived from the good decisions that senior management makes. if the company (and its investors) want to make a suizable profit hopefully P&G will be smart enought to move razors and battery production off-shore and close the expensive overhead plants in the northeast = that is a good busniness decision (not good for employee goodwill) but screw the employees I want my shares value to rise.

What makes you think you'd get a severance package? Does your employer have to give you one? I highly doubt my employer would give me any kind of severance package. I'd be happy with a pink slip, something to show the Labor Department that I was once employed and fired so I could at least collect unemployment ... Or is unemployment checks the same as a severance package???

Unemployment is not the same as severance. Severance is basically a paycheck that you get after being laid off, and it is something that you (or the union, etc.) negotatiate with your employer.

Re: My Company Sucks
When I read the title of the thread I thought it was a commentary by him on being around him.
Does your company sponsor PGA tour events? There's worthless.
