Hurricane Center projected track.
You live near that H on the west coast of Florida, don't you?
That sucks. Hope everything is okay for you and loved ones. That goes for everyone else down there.
If you're going to build something, I'd suggest an ark. They can make them quite modern these days, and you wouldn't have to put up with all those **** animals.

Which is it?
Only a meterologist would dare claim to know.

Yeah, good luck.
My friend who now resides in Florida was evacuated from work today. No work tomorrow either.
He called me from a local grocery market. Oh, and yes, he is stocking up on beer

That Stanley cup must be attracting those Hurricanes. I'm headed for the Outer Banks next week so keep them coming toward Florida and away from NC.

I thought about e-mailing my ex...he works for U of Florida Extension in a county just north of St. Pete. I thought I should at least say goodbye.
The thing is, I haven't spoken with him in almost ten years, so I guess it wouldn't make any difference if I did or not.

latest update is this may turn to category 3 by the time it hits tomorrow. If it does, its going to be ugly, we have been getting a ton of rain all month and flooding has been a problem in the area for 2 weeks.

Hopefully, Charley will make landfall to the south of Tampa. That should keep the storm surge from being that big of a problem there, as it will push water out of the bay instead of into it.
If Charley follows its projected path, it will make landfall north of Tampa, which could get ugly.
ScottK or someone else who knows more about this than I do can feel free to correct me if this is inaccurate.

You been taking meteorology classes Bruce? Your observations are dead-on.
Landfall just north of Tampa is very bad, as it will drive all the water into Tampa Bay, creating a higher storm surge at the north end of the Bay as compared to the stirm surge where he makes landfall. Landfall just south of Tampa results in northeast winds, pushing water out of the Bay.
Needless to say, it has not been a fun week at work....

Scott--
No classes. I just pay attention when I watch The Weather Channel, and I do some reading on my own. That's about it. I'm often impressed with my own ability to absorb information, but then I forget simple things my wife tells me to do, like the dishes or taking out the trash. I'm not so impressed about that.
