Smile Girls Prep Hockey

I know it is early, but does anyone have any predictions for this coming season of prep school hockey?? New/old players to or from different teams that should be contenders? Any teams returning a good number of players?

I think you have to put Pomfret right up there as well. They brought in an experienced PG goaltender from CA, Breanna Dobbe and added high scoring forward Rickie Kostnair from the Chicago Chill. Put that with another year of Sarah Vailincourt and I think Coach Rowe will have them making a run at the crown.

I know they are not in the same league but NAHA looks to have a great team. They added F Kelli Blankenship (Washington Pride), F Melissa Dianoski (Cal Selects), G Josette Severyn and D Andreya Hanley (both transfers from Gilmour Academy) this season. They lost in a shoot-out to Honeybaked in the Labor Day tournament but I think they have a good season ahead of them. It will be interesting to see how they do against college teams.

NAHA AND PREPS

Being in Connecticut, we don`t see them very often, but, they really shouldn`t be considered a Prep School, or considered with them. They I think, (my opinion only) is that they are more a club team. Like Washington Pride, Assebet etc. They seem to always have great teams, and they do a great job hockey-wise for sure. However, they usually have a lot of PG`s -- usually a wait area for those high level players looking to improve their position in the ollege situation. Great teams, but can`t fairly be compared with Prep School programs.

Nobles should be in the mix. With Sarah Parsons and a strong supporting cast returning they have to be one of the early favorites.

I Don't think that any of the players from Tabor transferred to Nobles.
I think that Lawrence is going to have a very strong team. They have a fair amount of excellent juniors. I am not sure if they are going to be as strong in net as they have been, but with good defense that may not be an issue. Don't forget they also have a new coach in Laurie Baker.

Question

Many voted for Cushing....is their any reason that they will be strong? Did they get a lot of players in? Or did they not lose any due to graduation?

Does anyone know the status for how Berkshire will be? Will they be strong enough to defend the title?

I heard Nobles lost their top defenceman due to a broken leg. How deep are they? Will they be able to recover? They should have a great team.

The rumor circulating at the Assabet rink on Sunday was that Helen Resor (on the u-22 team national team this summer for the series against Canada) broke her leg on Saturday playing soccer for Nobles. According to the rumor she will be out at least four months. No matter how deep Nobles is, she will be missed. Nobles still has Sarah Parsons, also on the U-22 team, and a number of other strong players.

Berkshire Still Strong

Berkshire will be strong this year. Several good players coming back and new coming in. Goaltending will be strong and the best coaching in prep hockey. Strong players to watch are forwards Becky Zavisa, Nicki Wiart, Katie Morrison and defensively they have Kacey Bellamy and Sarah Appleton just to name a few names.

Does anyone have any idea where Pomfret's Vallaincourt is going to college? She has to be a top recruit.

Cushing will be strong again this year. They only lost one player I believe.
Berkshire will still be good. They lost 9 players I believe, but they have great coaching and many solid players returning with new coming in. I believe Pomfret will be good this year and
Lawrence should be good as well.

I knew Piatelli a little. He was a helluva guy. My dad coached with him for a while at Kent in the '80s. One of the nicest guys I've ever met.

Cushing team

Paul Kennedy has gotten himself a great group of players.
He has got Stacey Silverman in goal, who just committed to Brown. Haley Moore, Courtney Sheary, Laura Brady, a transfer from Milton, Meri George, another transfer from Tewskbury High,
Sarah Russell, Erica Lawler, the list goes on and on. I believe that is why a lot of fans are picking Cushing to win it all.

Laura Brady isn't a transfer, she's a four year player at Cushing. I agree that Kennedy has the premier squad in prep-school this season, it'll be interesting to see if they can finish it up.

in addition to those great players I heard this weekend around the rinks that Kennedy has some PG defensemen with a good shot. That should help the loss of Keane last year on the blueline. In addition he has great returning players to work with this year for the New england's. Good luck to all the teams this season. With the teams being strong this season it looks as if prep hockey will be exciting to watch.

It looks like Meri George is the transfer from Milton, not Laura Brady

kennedy and Cushing

Living in New England (Conn) we know all about Cushing, great team, and great coach. Brady is a tremendous player. Looking at their schedule, they will do very well. Curious to see them in their own holiday tournament in December. Great competiiton in that one. Also curious about their game with Northwood School (Lake Placid) as Northwoods got three pretty good offensive players. I think (my opinion) Cushing will win, but Northwood will create some scoring opps. Also hope to see Berkshire-Cushing final! Lawrence will also be a factor as well.
