We have probably lost Austin Cho in addition to the known Bailey Conger. His twitter page https://twitter.com/auzzycho?lang=en no longer states "RPI Commit" below his name. If one googles "Austin Cho twitter" the "RPI commit" is still there and in the currently cached version https://webcache.googleusercontent.c...&ct=clnk&gl=us.

Wouldn't he have had to come in this year? I don't know exactly where the cutoff is, mind you, and I'm not going back to the rule book for that...

Considering we are very overloaded on D, it wouldn't have surprised me.

How often do we see "bad habits" continue along, even during a coaching change? I seem to recall some things I didn't like too much from the Fridgen era that carried over to Appert; maybe it won't be as bad from Appert to Smith with said lack.

Burke's close to a point per game, and York wasn't too far off either, so that's at least positive news. You usually don't get numbers like that without some sort of offensive talent, so I have to think we'll be just fine. And if Cameron sticks around with his commit, all the better.
Remember that they are both 1996s playing against a lot of younger players. Considering when we got them, they are quite good, but from a long term view, I would rather have gotten Conger.

Cho could have delayed another year until 2018, but he had already delayed once, so I doubt that he would want to.

Didn't we say the same thing about the one goalie who used us as a bargaining chip with Major Junior? And how'd he turn out?

I know it's the last thing we'd want to hear after 11 years, but I'd rather focus on the hand we have, and once the card is played, let the chips fall as they may.

That's fine. Let's move that discussion to the other thread.

The years the men's recruits are listed as committed for are not necessarily accurate.
The dates on which some of the women are listed as committing on may be considerably after the actual dates.

Brandon Pirri: Turk would give it to Jagr. That's awesome! Jagr's untouchable. And he would give it to Jagr.

Matt Cameron was drafted #106 (5th round) by the NJ Titans.
Not unexpected just like Bendorf last year was drafted. This would allow him to stay in the east.

Lone Star forward York makes NCAA DI commitment

                              June 8, 2017

The Lone Star Brahmas, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that forward Troy York has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) for the 2017-18 season. The two-year Brahma becomes the 11th player from this year’s squad to commit to an NCAA program.

“Obviously I’m super excited to be heading to RPI in the fall,” York said. “It’s a dream come true to get a D1 commitment but there’s a lot of work left.”

“I think it’s a great pick up for RPI,” head coach Dan Wildfong chimed in. “Troy has proven that he can score at every level he’s gone through and there’s no doubt that he can score at the college level as well. I am very proud of him and excited to watch his next journey.”

York undoubtedly put plenty of pucks in the opposition’s net. He finished second on the Brahmas in goals scored with 29 and registered 49 total points. York was also selected to and played in the 2017 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament for the South Division team, where he had a goal in two games.

The Plano, Texas native also struck when it mattered most, leading the league with nine game-winning goals and maybe none bigger than the overtime winner against Corpus Christi in the deciding Game 5 of the South Division Final.

But York was far more than a one-dimensional player for the Brahmas, as he learned how to play better off the puck through his two seasons with Lone Star.

“I learned a lot playing here for Dan. He taught me how to play a complete game not only with the puck but without it. And playing juniors only an hour from home is always nice for family and friends to be able to come watch me play.”

York went on to say how much he appreciates the Brahmas family and how he would never trade the last two years for anything.

“Of course I’d like to thank my family for the support they’ve given me throughout my journey,” York added. “I’d like to thank the entire Brahmas staff, especially coach Dan Wildfong and Al Rooney because without them none of this would be possible. I would also like to thank the fans for coming to support us, rain, snow or shine. Y’all made the ‘Shoebox’ the best rink in the NAHL.”

York was highly recruited by the Brahmas when he played for the Dallas Stars Elite team, registering 95 points through his T1EHL career. When he transitioned to junior hockey, he proved that he had the skill to compete at even the highest level.

“For Troy, I think things came easy to him at the beginning and then I think he really bought in to competing every shift, every day, and making it a lifestyle. That really helped his transition to be a really good player in our league. It’s important that he has that mindset going into college. He’s going to have to train and be even more ready and I think he’s made those steps here and he’ll do it there to be successful,” Wildfong said.

What made York so successful is how he learned to embrace his role in Texas. He could run top line power play minutes and block a crucial postseason shot when he needed to. Developing his game is something Troy hopes to accomplish in Troy, New York.

“Hopefully I will bring some scoring, but I think playing a 200 foot game at the next level is key so I hope to go in and be a good player in both ends of the ice,” York said.

From the academic side, York says he is looking forward to the challenge in the classroom.

“They have an impressive business program at RPI so I will probably do management or something in the business school,” York added.

York becomes the 31st Brahma in a four year stretch to commit to a Division I program and the first to attend RPI.

Atte Tuliara had an excellent, consistent season for HIFK U20, helping him to earn a college commitment to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the 2017-2018 season. In 45 games, the 1998 born defenseman scored eight goals and 18 assists to finish 6th on his team in points. Those are really good numbers for the blueliner who just completed his first U20 season. However, his overall impact on HIFK’s play was even more significant on many nights. I can’t think of many prospects who improved as much as Tuliara did during the past season.

Tuliara might be a relatively unknown prospect at the moment, however, he has displayed great amount of offensive potential. A confident, smart blueliner, he skates well with the puck and likes to jump into the attack to create more offense. Possesses good quickness and top speed given his 6’2 frame. Also has a quick slap shot that is accurate, consistently forcing goalies to make saves. The shot power is very impressive. In addition to the offensive firepower he brings on the ice, Tuliara is aware and reliable without the puck. Anticipates the developing play well, plus is able tie his man and use his stick well to defend the slot effectively. His strong footwork helped him to keep up defensively with some quick forwards at the U20 level. He is not overly physical but his proactive, solid defensive game was a positive in my viewings of HIFK U20. If Tuliara keeps getting better in all three zones, he will have a very successful NCAA career at RPI.
