Wow, here comes another wave of trolls... Will you feel better if we bake you a nice cake?

Please go back where you came from. Oswego is a very good team that is likely (IMO) to wind-up in Utica. No one here has said otherwise. What's with the cheap shots?

I did a search and there is a Days Inn less than a mile from the Aud

Depends on what you want to spend, but the Red Roof is very handy to The Aud and to a bunch of eateries. Right off the Thruway, too. I have only stayed there out of, er, "convenience", but have found it to be clean, quiet and safe. (And cheap .)

There has been quite a building splurge in the area between the thruway exit and the Aud, perhaps in (hopeful) preparation for NanoUtica. There is a newer Hampton Inn, a new Holiday Inn Express, and a new Fairfield Inn on north Genesee street. I am sure that they are on the pricey side, however. Downtown is the Radison and the (historic and perhaps haunted) Hotel Utica, both are walking distance to the Aud.

Are there any other festivals, celebrations, or special-events-of-a-scheduled-nature in Utica for the Frigid Four weekend that could tighten lodging availability?

Radisson downtown is within walking distance. Hotel Utica, which just switched to days inn franchise I think, is even closer and very historic. Plenty of places on Genesee st over the bridge to the north (you would actually exit thruway there) Holiday inn, red roof, Hampton. Also holiday inn up on burr stone by the college and a ramada near to that. Maybe 10 minutes to aud. Also a Hampton suites on route 840 but maybe a bit tougher to get in and out of. Hope you come and enjoy our community. Great Italian (and other) food.

As well as their coach, highly inappropriate in his language used towards the team/refs/ uncalled for, not to mention his extremely dirty style of play which is clearly coached (lots of extra hits to the head after a player is checked down). I can say that the NCAA will most likely regret the decision to hold the frozen 4 there if their fan base comes out.

Something definitely in the Utica Club and Matt's Beer out there, ever drank the stuff? It explains a lot.
Well Oz, I have seen some pretty shabby conduct by some UC fans at away games I must admit. Home games...well...not seen it in my section. But if you come (and I hope you do) then I hope I run into you because I am always interested in welcoming and speaking with opposing fans/students/parents. And I think you will find most people there will be passionate if UC in it, but friendly to all guests. BTW, Matts no longer made, but UC is along with Saranac products. I especially like the coffee lager and the caramel porter.

Hotel Utica is going to become a DoubleTree by Hilton. The Days Inn is a different re-branded motel on Genesee.

Just make that reservation now and no worries!

I don't know laker, but I am guessing the hockey will be the big event. I would love to tell you that you'll have to stay at Turning Stone Casino ( which is about 20 minutes away).

Just some thoughts as the excitement of frozen four builds. I've been to two in lake placid & will go again when there in 2018.. Especially fun when UC & Oswego in it back in 2013. Had a great time talking with all the fans, but the Oswego fans were particularly great because the common sentiment for both Oswego and UC fans was "if we don't win I hope you do". For those coming who may never have been here before, here's a couple links you may find interesting. Both by Rochester people but I think done about a year apart, so Rochester just a coincidence. Hope my links work.....not that tech savvy 😀

Nice job, Badger, I should have mentioned that place last night.

The Hotel Utica is very well-restored and elegant. And, they offer a parents' rate for out-of-town hockey moms and dads, which -last I asked- was under $100/night.

If I was coming over for the FF weekend, I would likely stay there, walk a minute over to Gerber's for a delightful Saranac craft beer and some upscale but well-priced pub-grub, then proceed another minute by foot to The Aud for the games. Easy-peasy, and the area is safe to walk. (Try the S'mores Porter at Gerber's, if they have it on hand... Yeah, it sounds disgusting, but it's a minor miracle on the palate.)

Not to get all kumbaya here, but if UC doesn't make it (and I doubt they will, likely having to play 2 road games en-route, if they even garner a bid) I'm all about The Lakers/Hobart/Hamilton representing the East against whatever 30 YO D-1 washouts who come here from the Dairy State... I go to Wisconsin each and every year, and I love it there, but we Upstaters need to stick together on this one .

(PS: There are some other great ethnic restaurants within a minute or two of The Aud... Try Pho Mekong on John St., and Geisha Two on Bank St. Both places are modest as far as decor, etc. goes, but both places offer exceptional Asian cuisine. There is Puerto Rican goat to be had on Mohawk St. too, and Bosnian eats on Culver Ave., not to mention quality Italian food on every corner... The one thing that really stands out about Utica is it's culinary diversity.)

It might have to be Turning Stone - a check online has several of the hotels mentioned here sold out....

EDIT: The internet gods have changed their minds (or operator error was corrected - you decide) - the Radisson and Hotel Utica are not available but the group between the Thruway and downtown are still open for business
