Cause people are stupid. There's people on this board who will tell you that someone won't make an investment that will give him 20% return if he has to pay a third of that profit in taxes.

I have a buddy that last year made a nice some of money. He whined about his taxes and how unfair it was. At the time I was making a third the money he was so I was taxed much lower. He whined more. I said if you want to switch salaries I will pay your taxes. He stopped whining...

My boss owns a small business. He whines about his taxes monthly. I said if he wants he can take my job I will take the business off his hands and pay the taxes. He stopped whining. (for a few days...now he stops though and says "no I wont switch with you" )

You have to dumb it down to that level.

You have to look at decisions within the context of what they are...all the factors. Didnt you ever take Sociology or Anthropology or Psychology? (or well PolySci) You have to be able to see into the mindset of the person making the vote. You sound like the people who yell at the players in a game every time they make a call and it doesnt work. Just because the play action pass didnt work doesnt mean the coach didnt have a legit reason to justify his calling it he was just wrong.

Look in the context of 2008 i honestly think voting for McCain was insanely irresponsible, maybe just as irresponsible as putting Trump in the WH currently. We can agree to disagree there but either way it was a pretty irrational decision none the less and acting like 2x the number of Hillary supporters doing that somehow being better in that context is not really an argument with solid logical backing. I guess if you had the benefit of hindsight and knew Obama would win and did that it'd be one thing but that's clearly not the case.

And I agree with what you're saying in that analogy I just don't think it really works here. The Bush admin was at a pretty critical breaking point towards the end and this country badly needed a change. Gas was like $5 a gallon, there were no jobs (coincidentally right when I graduated and it set me back at least a few years in terms of a career), and the government was doubling down on a war that was never popular to begin with on top of handing more money to the rich. Not to mention the Supreme Court situation. Giving the presidency to McCain would've been an unmitigated disaster and unlike the current guy he would've actually gotten something done.

They had to have. Trump put up Romney numbers and Hillary put up less than Obama numbers. (as did the Dems on the ticket with her) Unless there was a Liberal Holocaust in a Wal-Mart Death Camp quite a few had to have stayed home.

WI lost something like 100,000 black votes and coincidentally added a bunch of voter suppression laws right around that time. Combine that, Bernie/third party voters, Russia, the candidate herself, and other factors that don't immediately come to mind and you have a recipe for what happened.

And that's the thing. People who are so much better off than others just keep whining about how unfair it is that they have to pay their taxes. Americans have become a selfish group, and you can see it no better than in the Republican party and their president. It's all about them, and everyone else can just eff off and die.

If not for the horrible suffering of people that would result of them ending this work so early, I'd say go for it.

The result would be that many people will be forced to move from Puerto Rico to the only place they are legally allowed to go with just an ID. The US mainland. Which would make Texas and Florida significantly more anti-dump. And New York even more so. It's so funny that R's are so interested in the Ds playing identity politics, when they are pretty much forcing the hands of people to turn away from them- just based on their identity.

What a heartless bastard for even suggesting it.

Two things. First, people who are "much better off" in your book are probably paying taxes, or what you and I would certainly consider real money in terms of the amount.

Second, business owners, wealthy individuals, etc..., are much more likely to actually write a check to pay their taxes. For example, you might have to pay your quarterly estimates in April, June, September and then by January 15 of the following year, as opposed to the withholding that occurs from the vast majority of American's paychecks.

I've always maintained that if you ever want to see a tax revolt that will put the Boston Tea Party to shame, get rid of mandatory withholding and put everyone on the same system of paying taxes where they have to affirmatively write a large quarterly tax check to the United States Treasury four times per year, and if you estimate wrong, you get hit with penalties and interest. Right now, most people don't really even feel like they pay taxes because they never see the money. All they want to know is "what'll I get back" in the spring, like it's some sort of gift from the government.
