Saw a tweet the other day of Norby, Roque and Steffen visiting kids @ UW hospital. I have to admit they look pretty young, like they were barely out of HS. LOL. Those young ladies will grow up right in front of us in the next 4 to 5 years. One must assume the odds are high that Norby will be at UW for 5 years if she makes the 2018 Olympic Team. 4 to 5 years seems like a long time, but they grow up fast, I can't believe ARD is a senior this year.

Less that 8 weeks until first games! So excited to see what this season brings! Lots of depth up front, a stingy defense, and the best goaltender in the country! Should be a fun trip up to St. Cloud for the opening weekend!

I'd love to make the trip out there, it's under consideration, but I would lose a weekend of open water fishing. We shall see.

According to the UW tweeter, Mauermann is also invited to the USA camp. Pretty freaking awesome 4 incoming Fr are invited. I however did not see Wellhausen on the list tweeted.

The roster is up on the UW site....item of interest is one of the new goalies, Baldwin, is only 5-1. For the record ARD is 5-9 and Cece is 5-7. Mullan is still on the team, she came up from the club level when Miller got hurt last year, so it looks like 4 goalies on the roster. Maybe one can play forward, MJ has not officially filled the 12th forward spot yet.

Four goalies?! One can assume that the former club goalie is not on scholarship, but who knows.
As for the height issue, Maschmeyer is listed as 5'6, and that relatively small stature doesn't seem to slow her down. It doesn't seem that women goalies are usually exceptionally tall (like on the men's side) but if you don't have the height you'd better have impeccable technical skills!

Gotta think a 5-9 goalie vs a 5-1 leaves lot smaller targets to shoot up high unless the 5-1 is 6 feet out from the top of the crease, but then you are not able to get to the far post very quickly. I assume CC (Cece) is the heir apparent ARD.

How is Courtney Burke NOT on this list? Arguably she was one of the top defenseman not only in the WCHA but, in the entire country during her career at UW, a second team All-American, and she was a first round draft pick in the NWHL! Actually there are a few interesting choices and omissions on this list. Some players named haven't played a second of college hockey up to this point in their careers. It would be interesting to know USA Hockey's thoughts behind their choices. Seems like USA Hockey went really young/inexperienced in picking the players eligible for the U-22 team! Just an observation.

Are college grads eligible for U22?

Yes.. as long as your birth year is 1994 or younger.. Burke is a '94 as is Dana Travigno a recently graduated BC player.

If it is like past summers, there are three different rosters being staffed: U-18, U-22, and the "open" national team. U-18 and U-22 have series versus Canada ~ August, and the others get the chance to train and scrimmage these two rosters. So many of the "really young" people are competing for U-18 spots.

Actually when looking at the U-22 invite list, 14 of the 38 players (37%) are '97 or '98 birth years with ZERO experience playing college hockey. I chose to use Courtney Burke as an example in my previous post as someone who more than qualifies and should be on this list ahead of many but, you could make a case for many players that were not invited. It just seems to me that for this particular age group (U-22) there really is no need to take anyone who hasn't played at least one year of college hockey. The player pool is plenty deep enough! I don't care where a player played their prep, high school, or AAA hockey at. The D-1 game is played at a totally different level--a level that is comparable to playing Canada in this series.
