I feel sorry for the Berkeley athletes. They'll probably hold some events in the Coliseum, and as we know Cal can't win there.

      The winter games, right?

There's so much grift that the LA taxpayer will get bent over the rail. That's all the Olympics are anymore: a method for transferring public money to the private hands of the IOC and their enablers. It's as crooked as FIFA.

I guess this means no realistic shot at a Winter Games in the US anytime before 2030. Boo. Maybe Canada (Calgary/Banff redux?) will bid for 2026 or 2030?

The IOC is in a similar spot as the run up to 1984: There's not a lot of places wanting to bid or even capable of holding it these days, where are they gonna move it to if they don't get kickbacks, Rio?

We didn't have a strong bid for 2026 anyway (Boston? Please.), but SLC has a good chance at 2030.

Still a chance for 2018 if Trump falls below 30% and gets Seoul nuked.

I knew SLC was thinking about another bid. Their airport rebuild & expansion will be done by then, too. However, it seems unlikely to me that they would award both games to US cities back-to-back like that.

I don't think that matters so much. '96 and '02 were close together. '80 and '84 were consecutive. On the flip side the IOC is trying to spread it around and with '28 the US has 9 games with France being next with 6. OTOH, games in the US make a sound like money.

That's how I see it, too. If they need to build anything, it's to just modernize it. Other than that, almost everything is there and ready to go.

And that's why 1) there will be not many over runs and 2) LA will make money (again), making people (again) think you can make money on the Olympics.

Will the Olympics even be around in 2030?

Serious question with that... It seems as if the developed world has given the games the finger for the most part, especially on the Winter side of things....

Well it will always be a Thing, but yeah it may have become the NIT by then. I mean, it's already not the Olympics anymore since the networks and the Americans f-cked it up and turned it into Nike's Best Home Videos.
