  • D3 2017 Offseason Thread: Coaching, Conferences, Etc.

    Summary of Stories To Watch:

    Coaching Vacancies:
    Colby*
    Chatham
    Nichols
    Lebanon Valley
    Castleton
    Salem State
    Elmira*

*Included because HC still has an interim tag.

    New Programs for 2017:

    Aurora - Aurora, IL
    Trine - Angola, IN
    King's College - Wilkes-Barre, PA
    Wilkes University - Wilkes-Barre, PA

(Anyone I'm forgetting? Suffolk starts in 2018 from what I've read.)

    Conference Alignment
The ECAC West is down to five SUNY schools (Plattsburgh, Oswego, Potsdam, Cortland and Buffalo State). They have 2 seasons to get back to at least 7 to keep their Pool A bid to the NCAA tournament. There are two SUNY women's programs playing in the Colonial Hockey Conference: SUNY Canton and Morrisville State. There could be a defection of them to form a SUNYAC Women's League with the 5 ECAC West teams. Or they could find new programs or poach existing programs to join the ECAC West, leaving it the only ECAC conference left in Division III. Or they could do nothing and compete with the WIAC for a Pool B bid.

Anyone else have stories to watch for? And of course there will always be surprises...

Some significant changes to the NEHC as well:

1.DI/DII schools gone (Franklin Pierce, Holy Cross, Saint Anselm, Saint Michaels)
    2. Nichols moves to CHC
    3. Manhattanville moves to UCHC

With more to come in 2018-2019:
    - Salve Regina and UNE moving to CHC
    - Suffolk, Johnson Wales and Salem join

And that's just what we know for now.....

Is there some thought that Holley Tyng will not return at Colby? She was the "interim" coach but seems like a good fit.

I included them as they had posted a web posting for the head coach position on March 6. I will edit to put an asterisk like with Elmira.

I had not heard about Nichols moving to the CHC, and that's for next season? I also didn't know Salve Regina and UNE were also moving to the CHC in 2018. When/where were all these changes announced?

And where are Lebanon Valley and Post going next season?

I believe Post is in the scheduling alliance with St. Anselm, Franklin Pierce, etc...

LVC is a MAC school and thus going to the UCHC with former ECAC West private schools and the new MAC schools starting women's hockey

Stevenson for sure. Don't know about Salem State. They weren't listed in the news release.

Salem State did their own release on Jan 25. They will be in the NEHC starting in 2018.

Add 1 more to the coaching list: Fimiani out at Castleton
