Size matters, especially on the PP with guys like Wilson pounding the puck to the net. But what makes teams great are fast skaters, no matter how big they are who never stop moving their feet. They attack the puck, beat their opponent to the puck, and draw a lot of penalties because the opponent can't keep up and tries to slow them down. And good fast forwards back check more effectively. Yes this team needs to create more offense. Speedy forwards can do that with or without size or a 20+ goal scorer. But this team also needs to cut down the shots against. There were a lot of games the last few years where 30-40 shots were the norm. No goalie, no matter how good, can deal with that game in and game out and win on a consistent basis.

A lot of that seems to be based around the defensive mentality the team has had for a long time, and I can understand you need to play two way, but the team looked lost in front of our own blue line. In the "good" seasons we had, what was the common thread? A goaltender with the ability to stand on his head all season. Each time we didn't have that, the team was exposed. Every year, we'd see recruits with great numbers, and it just wouldn't materialize in college. Some may have to do with the level of play, but I believe it was something else that hopefully we are able to fix this year.

Not that much different under that system. I would be a 1 * and I can't skate.

Actually we have not gotten recruits with such great numbers recently, especially the USHL.

It doesn't have to be the USHL. Remember the excitement surrounding Laliberté, and he was playing in Canada? And to the inverse point, remember how Miller had almost zilch on the score sheet in Juniors but turned out pretty well in college?

Yes and yes. I was trying to eliminate Laliberte by saying "recently" and "USHL". We also were high on Burgess's stats, but his injury deferred further consideration.

Same could be said about Tironese, although he's turned out decently for the time we've had him.

Good point. Note however that ET did play a year in the USHL and his stats were pretty average there.

I thought that was the year he was injured? Or did he go back to BC?

He played a year in Green Bay (USHL) and then delayed coming to RPI so he could return to Alberni Valley where he got injured. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=101595

It'll probably stay as the Pacific coast Canadian province.
