Latest hourly prog has snow until 4:00 and light snow after that. Roads in Midd dry at this time. Looks like the only sketchy spot will be sneaking though the gap on the Northway...good luck.

After tonight, Plattsburgh boasts the top penalty kill unit across all divisions at 95.7 percent. Still a long way to go....but nonetheless noteworthy. Glad to see the power play starting to wake up. Nice night for the special teams.

Not to mention that it seemed like we played a total game from start to finish which was nice to see. Plus playing as well as this on "big ice" bodes well for this card group I am thinkn. Shocking how different this game was after the first time we played Midd in the Primelink. Amazing how much more it seems we "jell" this time then last.

Just a question, but anyone notice how much Bob got on Vick in this game? Just curious! From an outside perspective seems like Vick does not have "it" at the moment.

                    Cardinal men rout Middlebury {Article from the Plattsburgh Press-Republican - Jan. 14, 2012}

The first time Plattsburgh State and Middlebury played at Kenyon Arena this season, the game ended without a goal.

This time there were seven — all from the Cardinals.

Seven different players found the net for Plattsburgh in its nonconference men's hockey victory Friday.

Mathieu Cadieux made 25 saves to record the shutout.

"I think we've played a lot of games over the last couple years like (Friday's). The main thing that was different was we were very opportunistic," Plattsburgh coach Bob Emery said. "We found the back of the net.

"We got seven goals, but that didn't really win the game. The fact that we didn't give up any did."

The third-ranked Cardinals (11-2-3) have won their last five games and are unbeaten in their last nine. They visit No. 11 Williams tonight.

The Cardinals started the scoring barrage with two goals in the last five minutes of the first period. Jared Docking tipped in Paul Puglisi's shot for a power-play score, and then Alex Jensen lit the lamp with 44 seconds left.

"The second goal, (Patrick) Jobb made a great pass to Alex Jensen all alone, and he buried it," Emery said. "It's a cardinal sin in hockey — don't give up a late goal. But when you get one, you get that momentum coming out of the locker room."

Emery said the next goal was a big one, too. Alex Brenton notched a short-handed marker in the middle of the second period.

Shortly after Ryan Craig made it 4-0, Middlebury replaced starting goalie John Yanchek. Dan Fullam gave up goals to Kyle Taylor and Kyle Kudroch, and once the Panthers (6-5-2) turned to Mike Peters in the third period, Ryan Farnan beat him.

Jensen, Taylor and Kudroch all finished with a goal and an assist, and Puglisi and Jobb each earned two helpers.

Yanchek took the loss with 14 saves on 18 shots.

Plattsburgh went 2-for-4 with the man advantage, giving it four power-play goals in its last two games.

Emery said the Cardinals only played well for about 40 minutes in their previous two games, but Friday they turned in a complete game despite the lopsided score.

"You gotta keep your mind focused, forget about the past and try to get the next goal, do the little things," he said. "I think the coaching staff did a good job. Steve (Moffat) and Gregg (Fesette) did a good job of reminding the guys to not be satisfied with how we were playing and not be satisfied with the lead.

                    "We finally played 60 minutes."

                    Plattsburgh 7, Middlebury 0

                    Plattsburgh 2 3 2 — 7

Are you kidding! This is Emma we are talking about. He was still yelling at guys like Vick Schlueter. Not sure why, but there seem to be a few guys still not putting out.

Did the ice get smaller at Middlebury or did Plattsburgh just make it seem that way? One of the most impressive efforts in along time ,also one of the most unexpected . I felt a victory was going to result but never in such a dominant fashion ?

What is the state of Middlebury hockey as a result ?

Last night won't mean squat if we don't come out with a win tonight...a win over Midd is always good, but hopefully the boys arn't stuck with a 7-0 win over Middlebury and forget they have a tough Williams team coming up tonight.

I was very impressed by the Cards big win at Middleburry Friday. I am not sure if Plattsburgh is just a hot team right now or Middlebury is going through a down stretch, however, I would guess that it is a little bit of both. It is going to be interesting come NCAA time because Norwich, Castleton , Plattsburgh, Oswego, and Elmira probable can not all make the NCAA. So some top 10 or top 5 team is goingto be left out. Right now I would say the Cards are playing the best hockey of anyone in the East. Continued good luck in Williamstown. When is the last time Middlebury has been beat by either Norwich or Plattsburgh 7-2.
