  • Re: UML Recruiting, 2017+

NU picked up twin brothers as commits recently (2001 born), while UMass (a '97) and Maine (a '98) also picked up commits.

As of now, here's the future commits, for all years starting incoming 2017 for each of the HE schools (well, those that will be in HE next year):
    BC: 19
    BU: 19
    UConn: 10
    Maine: 21
    UMass: 14
    Lowell: 4
    Merrimack: 11
    UNH: 11
    NU: 21
    PC: 19
    UVM: 21

One of these things is not like the others ...

Not trying to be a wise guy, but one other thing that is not like anything ever in history of program:

4 NCAA Tournament appearances in 5 years. Lowell has won a game in each appearance and made FF once. I think Lowell's recruiting philosophy is just fine.

I think it's ok for the fans to be confused/concerned. Obviously we're all ecstatic at what this coaching group has been able to do, but that doesn't mean we can't raise concerns.

We're all aware of the success of the past 5 years.

As UML Puck Hawk already noted ... we do understand that.

I think many of us thought we'd see a jump in recruiting, and it just seems strange that they're proceeding so slowly. Obviously the kids they're bringing in are working out. But it's tough not to note the discrepancy in the numbers.

True, but one of those UVM commits has already de-committed (number isn't 21 any longer)... By recruiting so many, a lot of those kids will hit and miss. Norm wants the right guys and there are plenty if you wait and have a 20/21 y.o. freshman who can come in and play the system right away as opposed to striking out on a 1/3 of the kids you expected to be good.

Look at BC's classes that graduated the past 2 years. Lots of would-be and are NHLers but also several flops in there that were great 15-16 year olds who didn't develop.

He'll be the 1st Latvian and only the 2nd player from Eastern Europe ever to play for Lowell (Dmitry Sinistsyn was the 1st).

Good news. Eriks is currently tied for the league lead in points in the NAHL. He has 24 points (11-13-24) in 16 games.

                    Evaluation on Zohovs:

Eriks has a lot of skill and plays the game with excellent skating and quick, creative hands. He is still learning the North American game and tends to expose the puck too much. He is still learning to manage the game and be more patient. He has upside and DI potential. The Latvian native has represented his country in junior international competition. He is a player to keep and eye on going forward as he moves to the NAHL this year.

A new recruit, this one will be on next year's team.

1996 born RW Connor Sodergren, 6'1, 195 pounds. Currently plays for West Kelowna in the BCHL, but he's originally from Tewksbury. He played for St. Paul's School at the high school level and has been at West Kelowna for two years. This year, he's at 10-13-23 in 27 games, and was 8-22-30 in 58 games played last season (with a 6-7-13 in 24 playoff games). Originally he was committed to Army.

Jeff Cox had this to say about him a couple of years ago:
"The captain of the NEPSIHA Large School runner-up, the Tewksbury, Mass. native brings a lot of the intangibles to the table. He has good size and decent finishing ability. He projects as a third or fourth liner with the potential to add occasional offense at the NCAA level."

Sounds like a good character depth player.

Little more about Sodergren from the local website out in Penticton.

“Connor is a complete 200 foot player that is hard to play against every night,” commented Warriors general manager and head coach Rylan Ferster, “His work ethic is second to none."
