I had to give the Coaching Legend the benefit of doubt for his accomplishments as a champion Club Coach. He talks a good game and that's where it ends.
What happened to his first player to play in NHL? Coach Powers may need to use his POWER skating coaching skills to get him to the next level if he can get him off the 4th line. I have to wonder where his "stud" would he be playing right now if he wasn't 6'6"? His decision to play Sampson over Belonger looks like a deal of "promises promises".

I'm waiting for Coach Power press conference where he says, "we feel we can beat any team in the country and should have won this game tonight". Ready set and go. If it wasn't for Pashovitz and small ice surface this game could have been double digits. Big 32 was stellar once again for Coach Power tonight with a timely penalty but that's ok as long as he keeps feeding Coach with timely info about his teammates he will be a top ASU player and the first ASU player to play in NHL.

While this article is centered on the Arizona Coyotes, there is a brief mention of an impending Arena deal for the Coyotes on Arizona State's campus. This is another story in the on-again, off-again arena dialogue. I have tried to document this in detail and the reasons behind such a move. Just as little as a few months ago, things seemed to be trending in a direction for an on campus midsized arena. Now we seem to be trending back towards the shared NHL venue. This seems to make a lot of sense as the Coyotes, as implied in the article, are chomping at the bit to give their fans info on where they are going. Especially with the new Las Vegas team generating lots of pub here in the southwest. ASU is in the third phase of a three phase makeover of Sun Devil Stadium (football). However, ASU has delayed phase three to next year, pushing back the final phase by one year. ASU, a few months ago, said they came into more money and they wanted to evaluate new plans for the final phase. Most people believe it is the opposite. That phase three was delayed due to the need to raise more funds. Side note - about 80 million of the funding was diverted to a new football facility (meeting rooms, offices, weight room, etc). So how does football tie in to hockey? Well if phase three is having funding problems, that would impact the on-campus midsized hockey arena. Thus the idea of building a new midsize arena for hockey (also volleyball, women's basketball, wrestling and gymnastics were potential tenants) may not be possible and I do believe the school understands that something needs to be announced with regards to a hockey facility sooner, rather than later, for all the reasons we mention here. Having an arena (Coyotes/NHL style) on campus would not be a terrible thing as it would be easy for students to get to. The location mentioned in the article would be ideal. Also, ASU might gets its own practice sheet which would be great for the athletes and potential recruits. The problem would be in the details. Playing at Gila is tough in terms of atmosphere. We had a very respectful 3,200 at the Michigan game. But because of the lower bowl being so big, it didn't enhance the fan experience. You will also see branding issues. The venue will have to be branded as a Coyotes venue and that would likely remain permanent through the year.

In the end, ASU needs to get something done and soon. For the most obvious reasons, a midsize arena would be best. But if the Coyotes are to be moving on campus, then it makes sense for ASU to partner there. There is no realistic opportunity financially for them to build a separate on campus facility and this would save the finances to improve Wells Fargo for basketball, which for them is probably priority two behind football.

Proud of the boys! Down 4-2 in the third and come back to beat UNH 5-4 in OT. Levin had a solid game in goal and this game saw the return of Jordan Masters for the first time this season. He was the leading scorer last year, but was out for what seems to be discipline reasons. Quick turnaround with BC tomorrow afternoon. But a nice road win!

Big news here from long time Phoenix reporter Craig Morgan of Arizonasports.com. Here is hoping it all works out.

The Coyotes and Arizona State University are taking the first step in the possible construction of a 16,000-plus seat arena at the northwest corner of McClintock Drive and Rio Salado Parkway on Karsten Golf Course.

The Coyotes and Arizona State University announced that the Coyotes have entered into an exclusive negotiation agreement with Catellus Development Corp., ASU’s athletic facilities district developer, to work towards the finalization of a new arena and commercial development project within the district along Tempe Town Lake. The team would have until June 30, 2017 to review the land and get the political, development, architectural and financial plans required to build it in order.

Sources stressed that this is not an agreement to build an arena on the site. That would only come after the Coyotes have shown they have met all the requirements to go ahead with the project, but all sides expressed optimism that those goals can be achieved.

“I’m very pleased with where they are,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said. “I think this is an incredible opportunity for an exciting new future in the Valley.”

“As the first major partner for the ASU Athletic Facilities District, the Coyotes campus will generate momentum for this innovative, urban corridor,” said Greg Weaver, Executive Vice President for Catellus Development Corporation, in a release. “We are excited to partner with the Coyotes for their new facility.”

“Today’s a very exciting day for the organization,” Coyotes president and CEO Anthony LeBlanc added. “To get to the point where we are putting put out this joint announcement illustrates that we have done an awful lot of work, but the reality is there’s still a lot of work to be done.”

It’s no secret that the two sides have been working together on a potential partnership, but talks heated up in the last six months. While multiple media outlets reported another site on the north side of the 202 Freeway was the choice, the Karsten site has been the focal point of discussion for more than a year and meshes well with the university’s plans for an athletic district on the east side of Rural Road where the Weatherup Center (basketball), soccer and softball facilities already reside, and where the school would like to relocate the Whiteman Tennis Center with the re-launch of the men’s tennis program and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s relocation of its headquarters to Tempe.

The plans for that district go well beyond athletic facilities, however, and could include retail options and a hotel in a development that comprises 58 acres.

“This actually all started with a conversation between myself and (ASU Vice President for University Athletics) Ray Anderson in August of 2016,” LeBlanc said. “The City of Glendale had just finalized their plans to go forward with a two-year agreement with the Coyotes and have the ability to bring in a new arena manager.

“That’s when we realized it was time to start exploring what the other opportunities looked like. Ray and I had already been talking about their need for a new hockey facility, but we got on the phone and we said, ‘why don’t we look at something bigger?’ To get from that point to where we are has been an exhaustive process.”

Preliminary plans call for a main arena of about 16,000-plus seats with an adjacent, 4,000-seat arena where Arizona State’s Division I hockey program would play its games. Other ASU programs such as wrestling and gymnastics could also use the smaller facility. The hope is that construction could be completed in time for the 2019-20 NHL season.

The Coyotes are not releasing details about how construction would be funded, but LeBlanc did address the topic on Monday.

“There will be several tranches of money that will be utilized to build the arena of which the Coyotes will be the largest tranche,” he said. “The Coyotes will be the lead investor in this facility and ASU also has a financial commitment toward the project.

“We’re not looking for general funds from any governmental organization, but we need to form a very strong partnership with the State of Arizona and the City of Tempe. We also have to work with a variety of stakeholder groups such as Goldwater Institute and others so they understand what it is we’re trying to do. These projects have a process.”

ArizonaSports.com reported in October that private developers, in cooperation with the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, are also exploring the idea of building a 20,000-seat multi-purpose event center south of the Scottsdale Pavilions and west of the 101 Freeway that they say could potentially house the Coyotes or Phoenix Suns, but LeBlanc told Arizona Sports, “throughout this process we have had a number of groups solicit our involvement. This particular group and site are not one with which the Coyotes are working.”

The Coyotes’ arena lease agreement at Gila River Arena in Glendale expires after this season. Although the team would likely need to extend that agreement, the ownership group has made it clear it would like to relocate to the East Valley or downtown.

ASU launched a Division I hockey program last season and needs a legitimate arena to call home — or at least the promise of one — as it looks to secure conference affiliation and land top-end recruits.

ASU already plays some of its marquee games at Gila River Arena through a growing partnership with the Coyotes.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was in the Valley in March to tour potential arena sites, and sources confirmed that he met with officials from ASU, officials from the City of Phoenix, including Mayor Greg Stanton, and he also toured the Pavilions site.

The time is now!! Now that we have the Arena plans, it's time for ASU A/D, Ray Anderson to start the process of finding a qualified NCAA D1 Coach. The Cat has been let out of the bag with Coach Powers BIG snitch which has created a divide amongst the players that cannot be corrected by Powers. The majority of players no longer trust the Coaching staff or the BIG snitch along with the endless head games Coach plays. Many of the players have stated that they have lost interest and motivation, definitely not something you want to hear from a new program. Speaking with many of the players at the start of this season, they felt they had a strong core group that was going to be highly competitive and would be able to compete with most teams. What happened?

Coach Powers obsession to have BIG 32 and 39 the first ASU - NHL drafted players is what it is, an obsession. Don't believe me, just look at the team's starting lineup of every game and their time on the ice. Even when games are far out of reach as they were in the 8-0 loss to Penn State. What's the real point of having such a tough schedule for a 2nd year team? Other than getting NHL scouts to your games to see your 2 super stars, what's the point? The entire team's confidence should be a priority to a qualified Coach.

If you look at ASU's SOS it is one of the highest in the NCAA DI, But why not play Good teams, Players will get seen. It is too bad we lost David Jacobson to DIII Oswego State He is doing very well for the 3rd ranked Lakers.

Those players would have been seen no matter where they play. The coach knows that. The schedule vs top teams isn't the issue, there is a lot of parity and whether you play the top or bottom it won't make that much difference, maybe a win or two. If he made a mistake it was over promising things to the new recruits who didn't know better. Leave the coach alone for a bit and save your complaining for the end of the year.

Probably the most complete game the team has played all year in the win over RPI last night. They were the better team for good chunks of time last night and received a nice performance from goalie, Ryland Pashovitz. He was the main goalie in the early parts of last season before slipping a bit. He hasn't started this season off well, but played a solid third period in closing this one out. Will be interesting to see who starts tonight. The top line of Masters, Baillargeon and Murphy had a great night and capped off probably the prettiest goal of the season in the third for the Devils. Tonight will be interesting to see how both teams bounce back.

BIG is the size of the player Snitch, otherwise known in mafia terms as a RAT. 32 is the number he wears on his back. Informing Coach Powers with information about his teammates off ice activities is what he does best. Playing large minutes and key situations is his reward for the information he gives to Powers. It's called the Power Hockey Rewards program.
