Re: Maine Recruit Updates - 2008 and Beyond
USHR is reporting that Chris Connolly chose BU over Maine and a few other schools. He is supposed to have a breakout year in the USHL this season. Any speculation on what maine is looking for next year to round out the class? I would like to see another big time scoring forward, a two way forward, and a depth/project type forward. It would be nice to give Antoine another year in the USHL.

does anyone know why Derek is in Boston and not in Cedar Rapids? He went there this summer and made the team. Some rough rider fans emailed and asked ME if I knew, and I don't

Re: Maine Recruit Updates - 2008 and Beyond
I figured I'd bring this back up to the front page. Derek Arnold is injured and hasn't played in game for over a month and Diamond is also injured and has missed almost a month. There is an article in the NEHJ about the Omaha Lancers and the coach compares Diamond to Gerbe. http://www.hockeyjournal.com/Article.php?ArtID=650093
2008
Mark Anthoine (Chicago Steel/USHL) - 10 GP, 5 G, 4 A
Kelen Corkum (USNDPT U18 Team) - 12 GP, 0 G, 2 A
Scott Darling (Indiana Ice/USHL)- 8 GP, 5-2-0, 3.25 GAA, .890 SV%
Joe Diamond (Omaha Lancers/USHL) - 5 GP, 2 G, 1 A
Ryan Hegarty (USNDPT U18 Team) - 12GP, 2 G, 3 A
Will O'Neill (Omaha Lancers/USHL) - 12 GP 0 G, 3 A

Re: Maine Recruit Updates - 2008 and Beyond
USHR is reporting Maine got three committments recently. One is a young defenseman who won't show up for a few years. The other two are Gustav Nyquist, the swede who is supposed to be really good and Spencer Abbott, a former teammate of Josh Van Dyk. Judging by a 24-17-41 line in 26 games he can put the puck in the net.
At this point i'm pretty happy with next fall's recruiting class. I expect we'll see Anthoine instead of Corkum. No way you can make someone who is putting up almost a point a game in the USHL spend another year out there. I think a year in the USHL would help corkum too.

I was thinking the same thing about Anthoine I'd be very surprised if they didn't bring him in next year a PPG for a 17 year old is **** good in the USHL. Who's the defenseman that won't be here for a couple years?

Kevin Gagne, he's a '92. The article says he is small but quick and good with the puck. He attends Rothesay Netherwood School.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates - 2008 and Beyond
Here's another recruit reported today by Larry in the Bangor Daily News. Spencer Abbott a goal scorer. How many times have we heard this? I hope he is. A big transition from Junior Hockey to Division 1. Recruited by Northeastern and Niagra.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates - 2008 and Beyond
Well lots of news the last few days on the recruiting front. Nyquist and Abbot for next year, and our first recruit for 2010-2011 season (weird even typing that) in Kevin Gagne a defenseman out of New Brunswick, '92 birth date, and someone who is viewed as an elite recruit (top 20 in canada).
The western college hockey blog had this to say:
"Gagne would have been a top prospect for this spring's QMJHL draft, and I doubt the Q will let him go without much of a fight. Another interesting angle is that Gagne is a long-time teammate and friend of Russell Stover defenseman Garrett Clarke, who has received some scholarship offers, and will be a top prospect for either the NCAA or QMJHL."
Which means it could be tough to keep him away from the Q, or we also may have an inside to Stover (Clarke), if we can keep him out of the chocolate box! (Sorry could not resist!)
Again shows how early you have to be on the trail for these guys. Abbott by the way being compared by folks on a Josh Soares level is a nice thought.
