A little more by Utica than I picked, but I (and others) did pick Utica to win, myself, this was more surprising - more than just the 1 point variation in the final score, but the fact the surprise winner scored a SHG and 2 of the 3 points the loser scored were PPG's (Clarkson might have had an off day, or else ...)

norm1909,I mentioned your name,my name and the few select others that picked Utica to beat Neumann friday night in the EcacWest pick'em thread. And i think everyone(my self included)picked Utica,to if they won,win by no more than 1 or 2 goals.I hope Utica gets ranked or at least gets recieving votes on monday when the first poll is released. We beat and tied the Defending National Champs.......how don't we get at least recieving votes?

Neumann also lost 13 kids from that National Championship team. Their team was just loaded with experience last season.
In addition, looking at PTS leaders for Neumann last season, 6 out of their top 10 were seniors. They will face some big challenges as they rebuild their team this year.
The comparsion to last year I think is a bit overblown because they literally lost half their team. They are a very different team this season.
I still hope Utica gets some votes though.

I was at the game ...
Geneseo was actually demolishing Hobart at one point (4 -1) and if the game had continued that was it might have ended 10 - 1. Geneseo was faster, more physical, more in sync, and had better goaltending. Although the SOG were pretty lopsided I would say "good" scoring chances were about even. Hobart did wake up and make it a game after that point, but they didn't have quite enough. In the last three minutes Hobart wasn't even able to pull their goalie because Geneseo did such a good job of puck control, winning faceoffs, and winning battles in corners that the puck never got past the red line. My opinion is that Hobart had a slight edge in skaters, but (at least tonight) Geneseo had a big edge in goaltending. End result: slight edge Geneseo. Overall, Hobart is still a team to be reckoned with but I don't see them as a frozen err ... national semi-finalist with the current goaltending situation.
Congratulations to Matt Wallace on his hat trick. However, after scoring his third he went over to the Geneseo student section (which is about 75% of the arena but he found the most vocal part) and began taunting the fans. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that the crowd got under his skin, but it was surprising the more I thought about it because here is a guy who played on a national semi-final team last year and although he is playing a good individual game it doesn't seem like being down 4-3 to an unranked opponent would really be worth celebrating and definitely not taunting.

Oh i completly agree with you BlueDevilRadio! I know and understand what Neumann had last season compared to what they have this season. The coaching is the same but the players are very different.Neumann also has 14 freshman this year, like what you said before.....But regaurdless,They were a frekin hard team! They may be a different team but they play like the national champs from last year!,and i think its still huge that a unranked team beat the #2 team in the country.I think if Utica can beat Neumann, that they can beat any EcacWest team.I just hope Utica can keep the spark going throughout the year.Utica is a very different team this year.
