Wow, had the Oilers done anything at all in the 1st period, Gagner could of tied Sitlers record of 10.

Was actually 3-3 after the 2nd on a SHG by the Hawks, and later in the 3rd was a 5-4 game.

With all due respect to the fans out on Long Island (all four of them), they'd have to be stupid not to push for this. You've got a brand new arena going up in a great location, pretty much right at a massive subway/LIRR hub. Why wouldn't you want a team there? Of course, now there will just be even MORE Rangers fans at Rangers-Islanders(/Amerks) games.

There's one problem. The design of the arena allows for only 14500 seats for hockey.

Does that team really need any more than that?

I don't think the league would have an issue with that. It's the exposure they want, not necessarily the extra 6,000 at the game. I would think though that Prokhorov would want to own at least part of the team, which might be an issue.

The Islanders have averaged under 14,000 every year since the lockout; I have to guess that they'd rather sell out a 14,500 seat arena (plus 100 luxury suites in the Barclays Center vs. 32 in the Coliseum) than have one that seats 16,250 be only 80% full.

The location makes it easier for fans to come as well. It's probably a lot easier to get to Brooklyn than Long Island.

Is this new building going to the Nets new home? Wouldn't the Islanders be playing 2nd fiddle to them?

Not saying it's a bad place to start, I just think that they could be stuck in the Nets shadow for a LONG time to follow if the Nets take root...

Yes, and the final iteration of the arena is, from what I have heard, not the ideal arena for hockey.
