    Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Frustrating weekend, only because a 1-0 loss just looks like points in the standings were lost. The Lakers, in my opinion, outplayed BGSU in every facet of both games. The Lakers outhit, out shot, out worked, and out performed BGSU. If not for BGSU's goalteding, the Lakers would've racked up back-to-back 4-1 wins. Maybe more.

BGSU is going to steal a whole lot of games this year, with that goaltending and tight checking. In many ways, coming into the season I expected the Lakers to look like BGSU. But I have to be honest -- this particular Laker team seems to have some more crackle in their offensive play than we've seen in many years. There is a dedication to a solid forecheck (as opposed to the hated dump-and-don't-chase). And the players seem to have an extra step, giving them a moment to try to find open players and trying, by God actually trying, to make creative offensive plays.

Its been very nice to watch.

If the goaltending holds up (it should) this team could make some real noise this year.

The weekend trip to Oxford is a looming trap. Miami just got swept in Big Rapids, going 0-8 on the powerplay while giving up 4 PP goals against. They are going to be in a sour mood and I would expect Miami's special teams to perform much better. From the reports, Miami was not exactly clicking in their season-opening home series of lightly-regarded Colgate (won 4-3, lost 3-2). The Lakers are either catching Miami at the right time -- the team is still struggling to find their legs -- OR -- the Lakers are walking into a buzz-saw with Miami waking up and getting angry.

Maybe Miami just isn't that good this season?

    Who knows?

I do know that the Lakers could play very well in Oxford and still ge swept. I hope the defense is ready. I personally suspect Blasi will have those Miami boys skating their fannies off all week, and they will hit the ice in a sour mood Friday night. If the Lakers can hold them off for a period on Friday, then its an open series. Two wins would look mighty nice in the Lakers' standings.

RE: Friday night's crowd. Disappointing. But I don't think homecoming had that much of an impact. It never really has been a serious matter in the past. It think it was the combination of the football game (somewhat), plus the concert at the Casino, and I would put more emphasis on the casino activity. The crowd was noticibly larger and louder (seemed like it) Saturday night. But I believe this is where the LSSU attendance resides right now. It will take winning and some creative efforts to grow the avergage crowd past 2,500. Lets be honest, if a highschool football game has THAT big of an impact, something is wrong.

I have to disagree with you about Friday's game. Granted I don't get to see the Lakers play very often, but I don't recall them ever looking as bad as what I saw Friday night. I give credit to BG for playing well defensively, but the Lakers just looked totally out of sync and made it easy for BG. The BG goalie played solid but he only faced a couple of quality scoring opportunities from the Lakers the whole game.

The Lakers played much better Saturday night but even then they should have been able to put BG away much sooner than the last minute and a half of the game. I thought they started getting a bit lackadaisical about two thirds of the way through the second period.

Will have to agree with Bill on assessment of the weekend games. BGSU was all over the Lakers Friday evening, we did not have much in the way of offensive chances all evening. Lakers did make amends Saturday, though, with a completely thorough domination of the BG team (even if one mistake had us all on edge until the Trotman goal late sealed it).

Both the Lakers and BGSU are going to give teams trouble all season with excellent goaltending, solid team defensive and hard working habits.

Anyone know if the hockey show will be streamed this week? Or possibly podcasted?

              No and no

I don't know what is wrong with those people at that radio station but they don't seem to care much about the complaints or the fans out of town. I notified both the station and the university last week. I left a message for the station owner, have not received any call back. Emailed the A.D. and the President of the University and did receive a reply stating they appreciate the feedback and will be bringing it up.

Did anyone hear that show VanWaggoner is doing? I went on the college radio site but couldn't find it. Could someone post the link if they know where it is.

Just a reminder that the games are on Thursday and Friday this weekend.

A couple of other thoughts about the games this past weekend:

I thought Perrault looked a lot more comfortable out there on D now that he's had a year of college hockey behind him.

I think Czuczman will turn out to be a good D; he looked a little hesitant at times, but once he gains more experience will be a good solid defensive D.

Roque sat Shkreli Saturday night and played Cooper instead. That surprised me; seems like he could have played Ainsworth instead to see what he can do.

Thank you and I just got done listening to it. Excellent job by VanWagonner and Jim Roque, very informative and out of town listeners can tune in. Well done

The job that 5' 10" Fred did was awsome though.

He said that he was playing all of the seniors on Saturday night for parents weekend. That is why Pobur played as well.

OK, thanks Laker Dude. I was at the game and didn't catch the broadcast (or pre-game show). But I still wonder why Roque hasn't played Ainsworth in place of Shkreli in any of the other games, not that there have been many of them yet.
