I was thinking possible face-offs and figuring its one of his last games he might pick it up a notch.
I was thinking the same thing.
UM is one of the big three this year. (Miami, Notre Dame, UM). NMU is 1-5 against the first two this year and have been badly outplayed in those games in general. Even the lone win took a monster effort by Coreau against the Irish with 50+ saves. The only way the Cats have a chance this weekend is to play 5 on 5 hockey and Ellingson (I assume) stand on his head.
That being said, I like how the future looks for Northern. With freshmen like D-men Epp and Ludwig logging tons of ice time now, they will be potential all CCHA material in the seasons to come.

What's with all the negativity fellow felines of the Northwoods? The cats have a lot of depth; I'm looking for Chernie, Florek, and Fox to pull the throttle and get the cats 2 or 3 points this weekend. I like Nick Kosinski as a classmate, but whoever said his injury will contribute to their losing both games... come on. As for the Gron injury- yes he's an asset but to me he was a suprise as leading scorer this year. I know the aforementioned skaters are dying to get some goals, and the stage really couldn't get much bigger in the regular season. I like Northern to win game one, then pray for more points, but 3 would be sufficient to get a bye. Let's make some noise this weekend tell your friends who dont leave on SB to get any remaining tix before lazy UM alum and fans snatch em up!
The cats do have depth, and while they arent as "stacked" as the bigger programs, they do have players capable of stepping up without Gron. Fox did so last week, Chewy (if he stays out of the box) Florek, Hanson (who has been playing great since being benched) are all capable of putting up big games. Fox has really been the 7th man this season for NMU, with great leadership but great presence on the ice and putting the puck home. Kosinski has been playing great this season. Players that could possibly step up huge this weekend: Higby, Follmer or Viger.

Is it really Spring Break this weekend at NMU?If so it won't help NMU. A loud and boisterous student section would be key to carrying any momentum NMU has on the ice, as well as helping to pick them up when things are tough.
NMU does have the ability to suprise the Weasals this weekend but it will take a gigantic effort. Two things have to happen, a goalie has to stand on his head and the forwards need to put away quality chances in order to win. Obviously, NMU will be outshot by a huge margin so blocking shots and clogging lanes in front of the goalie will go a long way towards any points.

Any word if they will play the Swedish national anthem on Saturday night for Gregor? I seem to recall the Finnish anthem being played for Tarkki on his senior night. I think it would be nice.
They played the Swedish anthem for senior night at Yost last week for Michigan's Carl Hagelin.
Of course, he then had the game tying goal with 40 seconds left in the third and the winner with 3 seconds left in OT.
It might have inspired him, but with a swede on each team, you never know what you would get.

Better than driving to Marquette? Never...What is wrong with you trolls from below the bridge anyways?
I'm sure the trip would be rewarding in one fashion or another. Marquette in the throngs of winter with so much riding on the series should be incentive enough!!!

Due to some school business, I will be in MQT this weekend and thus miss the Lakers senior night, but I will be able to catch the UM-NMU Saturday game, hoping for an exciting contest!

Well, Ferris took 2 points from the Bucknuts tonight... That means to secure a bye the Cats MUST get at least a point this weekend... Probably going to need more however...

NMUFAN: I'm with you on that one. I would like to see NMU take at least 3 points this weekend and see Western swept so we don't have to worry abot that...
It was funny that when the Mason Cup was in Marquette the CCHA officials mentioned how odd it would be without NMU in Detroit this March...I guess they assumed our team was in the dumper...I hope they are shown wrong...![]()
