Most NHL teams give goalies a much longer period of time to fine tune their game for the NHL game. I think York still has plenty of time to prove he belongs. But as EJF has noted several times-he sure needs to get some game experience somewhere. Columbus is a notoriously poorly run organization. This is why i suspect we might see York sent off somewhere else. Atlanta was like back when Brad Tapper chose them. They had their own ideas of what would work-and none of it did despite some very decent talent. I got to understand how some of this works during that period of time. The talent level when you look at the players who do make it up to the NHL is very consistent-of course excepting those with special talents who just are the superstars. Many decison are made with a checkbook and between lawyers instead of by performance on the ice. Players sometimes are not given the chance despite showing that they are a positive bonus for a team. I sincerely hope that York does start to get his shot-but would not be at all surprised if it takes several more years and is in a totally different location. He may just have to be patient.

Tyler Helfrich with his 14th. Interesting, TH is now wearing the A on his sweater. Maybe they rotate? Eric Burgdoerfer was wearing one of the A's...http://echl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=9338

Helfrich had his 3 game goal-scoring streak snapped but did pick up 2 assists in the win tonight. BTW, TH was not wearing the "A" tonight but E.Burgdoerfer was after not wearing it in last night's game. http://echl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=9351

I think some teams rotate between a couple different assistant captains for road games. I forget where I read it, will try and find a link...

EDIT: Well, here's the official rule book, talks about captains/assistant captains on page 7, but not what I read before about rotating them-that may have been a specific team.

except that when Helfrich wore the A it was a home game.

I received this e-mail from PHPA regarding what it means to be, "on loan".......Thank you for your email. A player who is on an NHL contract (and many players in the AHL are technically on NHL contracts) is "assigned" or "re-assigned" from the NHL Club to the AHL (or ECHL) affiliate for example because they are on an NHL contract.

However, if a player is on an AHL contract, and sent to the ECHL (for example), he would be "on loan" because he is on an AHL contract - not an ECHL contract.

The nature of the player's contract and the team for which he is playing determines whether he is assigned or on loan.

                    Hope this makes sense.

                      Thanks for the clarification!

That's interesting about the switches in assistant captain...I really don't know why they do that.

Polacek has graduated to actually being mentioned as a scratch before the last few Rivermen games. Don't know if that means he's healed enough to now be a healthy scratch, or if they just remembered he exists...
