I'm a little surprised that there is debate on whether there will be a BTHC - it sure looks like a done deal to me.

I think there's a lot of bargaining between the faithful... but in the end, its not in our hands.

Bruce McLeod was on TV during the Friday night North Dakota-Bemidji State game. He said that Jim Delany has personally told him that he fully expects to start a full-fledged BTHC by '14 or '15. McLeod said he has proposed a scheduling alliance whereby Minnesota and Wisconsin would play eight games per year against WCHA teams on a rotating basis (presumably one two-game series against four teams). If agreed upon, for example, that would mean each WCHA school would play Minnesota every 2.5 years and would get them at home once every 5 years.

Who knows if Minnesota and Wisconsin will agree to such an arrangement, or any type of scheduling alliance. Regardless, it's pretty clear that Minnesota and Wisconsin will be leaving the WCHA and some of the great college hockey rivalries will effectively come to an end.

For Wisconsin maybe, but not for the left-behind WCHA teams. The WCHA simply goes from 12 to 10.

    Denver Post

What do you think about Penn State starting a Division I program? And what about early conversation that Penn State is trying to lure Wisconsin and Minnesota away from from the WCHA? Does the WCHA need to make some early moves to protect itself? Do you predict some of the same changes in college hockey that we saw in college football?
    --Rich

Jim and Rich, the Big Ten Conference has stated their intention to sponsor a Big Ten hockey conference once Penn State officially begins Division I play. It is estimated they would start for the 2014- 2015 season.

All six of the Big Ten hockey schools (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State) will be obligated to play in the Big Ten hockey conference no matter what their loyalties are to their current leagues.
    Times are a changing.

Something that very, VERY few of us want.

Unfortunately, it's not put to a fan vote.

I guess Michigan will have to be our new Sioux, and oh how I hate the blue.

I love the past, present, and i will love the future of college hockey. if that means that the big ten gets their teams together, they get their teams together. I understand that it tears apart a couple of rivalries, but its creating new ones as well, and who doesn't love big ten rivalries anyways?

I don't give 2 ****s about Big10 rivalries. I don't even really care about Wisco as it is.

I'd much rather see games agains St. Cloud, Duluth and UND.

then this works perfectly for you..

you dont care about wisconsin, and you wont have to. they will be in the big ten conference, and you will still have St cloud, duluth, and UND and everyone else (excluding the golphers) in the WHCA in conference play. Plus they will still meet up with some of the teams in the WHCA throughout the year.

    are you calling me out?

Believe me, no one hates you yet.

You actually need to win something before you make the big boys' radar. We only see you guys as 4 easy wins for the next 10 years.

Just ask St. Cloud. They desperately want to be hated (noticed), but we constantly need to be reminded that they even have a program.

Um, I'm a Gopher fan (which should be blatantly obvious from my user name). Your response makes no sense.

You posed the question "who doesn't like Big10 rivalries?" and I answered.

I also don't care about them when it comes to hockey. I love that we have different rivals/tough opponents in hockey from football and basketball.

Wouldn't care to play North Dakota in football, and don't care to play Ohio State in hockey. Don't care to have OSU take North Dakota's place on our hockey schedule either.

Of course, North Dakota would probably be a good matchup for the Gophers in football...
