  • Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

Thanks D2D...good info. I usually use the metro area holiday tournaments to catch particular teams...for obvious reasons. I won't see them all obviously...but would like to catch BSM, Hopkins, Blake, Breck, Jeffereson, Roseville, Eagan. Wingers too if the chance presents. I see they're at Breck on the 22nd.

Agree on the Schwan Cup. Used to attend that regularly back when the Blue Division was routinely strong.

Good opportunity for many college scouts as well, again for obvious reasons.

The problem with scouting the holiday tournaments is that several of the marquee players are away for U-18 Worlds.

Aren't all of the Minnesotans who will be in Finland already committed? [ http://usahockey.cachefly.net/2013%2...C%20Roster.pdf ]

The scouts would primarily be looking at the younger players who are still available.

Not if the scouts are people like brooky and me. Anyway, if Baldwin committed, then I missed it.

Raiders and Bears mix it up tonight @ Roseville in the SEC. Tomorrow the Polars and Pioneers of the Classic Suburban have a go @ Aldrich. Ponies and Mustangs in another SEC battle. Eagan @ Tonka. May vs. Albrecht (Stewart) in IGH...that's Mahtomedi vs. Simley

Probably has done as much or more to advance girls youth and high school hockey in Minnesota than anyone. And I bet she knows more people connected to the game than anybody else too.

Great tribute to a super person! The Jr Whitecaps has been a tremendous way to gain exposure for MN players. The Fall Elite League is not mentioned here but is another accomplishment driven by Winny! She has also been active with the Herb Brooks Foundation at the Board Level.

Since her path has now brought her back to the high school game I'll toss this in the high school hockey thread. A good read.

I don't believe I've seen Nicole Schammel's name appear on any school's commitment list? She's a Junior in high school, which would make her a 2014-15 recruit.

Thus far she's running away with the Minny scoring lead, with 59 points (31 Goals, 28 Assists) on the season (14 games played). Granted, Red Wing's schedule has not been the strongest, but those kind of numbers are still impressive.

You've been around the game long enough to know that high school stats mean very little to college coaches. They are looking for complete players,or players who likely will become complete players. If this young lady has the makings of said player it won't be long before she is "found" and commits.
