  • U MN vs. UND: The Rumble in the Desert

The big game is finally upon us. The scrappy team and the tough team. Ok...spoiler alert: they're both the Gophers. A few words from Steve O about the event:

The demand was high, especially after the highly successful UND/BC game at Madison Square Garden last Dec. which sold out @ 11,348 tics.

Me thinks the game would have sold out anyway (with tics available for Gopher fans too ) much like MSG if they moved from the 7500 seat Orleans Arena to the new 17500 seat T-Mobile. Apparently most of the tickets for this U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game were snapped up during pre-sales for UND Champions Club members. Well, it is UND's shindig, so they can do what they want. But IMHO a change in venue would have opened it up to more fans and probably sold out with a huge profit margin, even though renting T-Mobile is substantially higher.

Some pretty cool pregame parties are planned: Friday, Saturday. Showing up donning a Gopher jersey amidst a sea of drunken Whioux fans is at best risky...if you know what I mean. I would do it though, but then again I've been training in martial arts for years.
So can we watch this on TV? Can you stream it? Maybe NCHC TV? Can you stream it on delay?
    Go Gophers!

If you have Comcast, Mediacom, or Charter you are in luck. Otherwise it's NCHC TV for streaming, I believe.

USCHO gives me another reason to not do work while I am at work.

It should be a blast. Our group of 14 (traveling with 7, meeting 7) will have one, token, gopher fan. That seems about right to me. Isn't gopher hockey attendance considered "token" at best anyway?

We are making him stay at a separate casino, off the strip, however. Friendship is friendship, and it is Vegas where absurdity sometimes reigns, but you have to draw the line somewhere.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

If UND would have been proud of their hockey attendance, they would have arranged for a bigger arena. just saying.

The reason for the talent in the west? Because MN didn't rely on Canada.

Why, are they going to attack somebody who is just trying to shake hands?

No, I think UND just felt that if they scheduled the game for a larger arena and it was only 60% filled it would feel too much like a home game for the gophers.

I could see how that would terrorize UND, after all, a Gopher home game is usually a f'hawk ***-whooping.

If the Gophers play the best game they’re capable of playing, they should be up 3-0 after 1 period on their way to a 5-1 victory.
National championships won by Big Ten schools : 23 (Michigan 9, Wisconsin 6, Minnesota 5, Michigan State 3, Ohio State 0, Penn State 0, Notre Dame 0)
                            National championships won by NCHC schools : 21 (North Dakota 8, Denver 8, MN-Duluth 3, Colorado College 2, St. Cloud State 0, Miami 0, NE-Omaha 0, Western Michigan 0)

                            23 > 21

UND should win decisively unless they play down to the level of the competition.
