Lopsided shots notwithstanding, I thought it was a pretty solid win tonight. Oettinger played well. Second periods continue to make me very nervous.

While a win was good (and important, going into the break) I was disappointed in the effort. For much of the game, BU just wasn't skating - they glided around, and even stood around, letting Dartmouth bring the game to them. When BU uses its speed, and is tenacious in their pursuit of the puck, they take over the flow of the game. Opportunities develop, good things happen. But this wasn't the case last night. We need more heart.

Oettinger was the difference last night, and we can't rely on that as a game strategy. Yes, we were missing our top two centers, and Krys was out as well. The power play was, consequently and uniformly, awful. And I still am amazed that Cloonan finds his way into the line-up. We'd be better off investing the ice time in DeBoer, Witkowski, Cheremeta or Quercia to really see what their upsides are going forward.

Good story on Alex Chiasson's rags to riches season with Edmonton. Discarded by the Caps, he went unsigned this summer, then a PTO with the Oilers. Now on the first line, converting passes from McDavid. Scored his career best 14th goal last night.

My understanding is he re-injured the same shoulder that kept him out the first part of last season w/ the Under-18s. I imagine surgery this time around, hence him being out for the season.

Not a good look when you go to hit someone and you end up with the injury.

Surprised Bowers made Team Canada. Not because he isn't a good player. Just surprised Canada would take a lowly college route player who isn't lighting it up.

Dante Fabbro to play on Team Canada in the Spengler Cup, the same tourney Brandon Hickey played in (and won gold in) for Team Canada last year.

Jake Wise's season ending injury is now confirmed by Albie. Mark Divver had reported a shoulder injury. Last year he missed the first half of the U18 season with a broken collar bone.

BU is adding goalie Vinnie Purpura for second semester. He was due to arrive next September, but had already been accepted by admissions. A 6'6" 194 lb goalie from Illinois, he has split the USHL season thus far between Omaha (3.77 GAA) and Youngstown (1.99).

Bob Crocker, a former Terrier and one of the really good guys in the hockey community, died last night at 92. He was Jack Kelley assistant for ten seasons, helping him build BU's first two NCAA championship teams. He also coached baseball at BU. After BU, he was head coach at Pennsylvania, then assistant GM of the Whalers before beginning a long career as an amateur scout for several NHL teams, working through last season. Virtually everyone in hockey know him. Was glad to call him a friend.

Bob Crocker, the 'Dean of New England Scouts,' died last night on the Cape at 92. A long-time scout with the NYR & LA Kings, he was also Hartford Whalers asst. GM, head coach at Penn, and asst. at BU. Bob was loved and respected by all. A good life, filled w/ kindness & friends.

The Terrier Hockey Fan Blog wrote about Coach Crocker several times: In 2015 he received the Lester Patrick Trophy for outstanding service to hockey in the United States. He was honored by BU during a BU-BC in 2007. His championship ring collection was featured in this post.

Interesting development on the goalie front. Must be something going on with one of the current roster guys. Nobody carries 4...

Looks like Farabee should have no trouble making the WJC team. I hope Cockerill makes it. He won't score a lot, but his speed and tenacity could help the team.

From what I've heard, there will be four goalies on the roster second semester. IIRC, BC had four goalies not long ago, in a similar situation for second semester.

My guess is that the coaches think Purpura, who is a '98 birthdate, will benefit more from practicing -and possibly playing a few games--against D1 players than continuing to play in juniors. He was admitted to BU last spring so that's not an issue.
