Most of these systems take margin into account and many even include stats. Many of the systems including the Baker Bradley Terry (who had UCF in the top four) actually have UCF dropping in rankings when you take margin into account.

Their wins weren’t impressive enough to an objective system.

Then, yet again, UCF is screwed over by the Good Ol' Boy Network.

          **shrug**

That's the problem.... You guys are admitting that FBS is 130 teams, but the playoff is only open to 65 of those teams. There is no way the "Elite" power-5 teams touch a team like UCF or Boise. And this is before we chat about "Home and Home" arrangements. So they schedule a "2nd tier" Power-5 team. And then they discredit that team when they beat them (see Pitt this year). It's a circular argument that the non-Power5 teams can never win.

The only hope I can see is that a team like UCF schedules a team like Kentucky to start the season and beat them. Kentucky the goes ape poopy running through the SEC, going undefeated in the SEC all the way to the title game. And even then, I'm sure Kentucky will be placed ahead of UCF because "They played the harder conference schedule".

Just call it a "Power-5 Champion" and be done with it....

Edit: This applies to any and all small conference teams. The system is against them in all facets.
It isn't about whether UCF could beat any of these teams (they could), or whether they deserve a place at the table (they do). It's about money. It's always been about money. It benefits the power 5 schools to keep it so that only power 5 teams get to participate, or at least they think it does. Thing is, if you have the votes, you get to make the rules.

Oddly enough, I think it might actually be more profitable for them if they opened it up. Certainly the NCAA basketball tournament isn't hurt due to the participation of non-power 5 schools.

It'll happen. One day in the near future it'll expand to 8 teams, and a team like UCF might get a token shot, every now and then. I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually went to a 16 team playoff. If it works for the FCS schools then mathematically it should work for the big schools.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

Given Bozo State's history with doing that- it would likely be UCF's fault that they don't play them.

UCF is a top team now, so any win over them would actually be significant. Every big team schedules one or two big NC games, so finding a big team willing to play UCF should be really easy. Including a Home and Home given the size of the stadium and who is turning out. Plus the game would certainly be on TV.

Again, TCU and BSU BOTH scheduled teams in big conferences, so stop playing that BS card that nobody will do it out of fear. There's zero basis of that claim given the opportunities of other teams in similar positions.

Who said they're being refused? Boise State didn't seem to have any trouble putting together a worthy schedule several times over.

You guys can't have it both ways... It's a catch 22 scenario for these schools:

They schedule a "Mid or Lower tier" power-5 team (Pitt, Vandy, NC State, Cal, etc.). That doesn't cancel out the negative impact that their conference schedule has on them come ranking time. They can't get over the top on that. They need to have a win over a true "elite" Power-5 team and those teams won't come to the table. And they sure as hell ain't going to play any game in Orlando if they do agree to play. This is your teams like Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, Bama, Auburn, USC, etc.

Non-Power-5 schools can't get over the hump on this. It's like trying to play 3-Card Monte.... Everyone keeps saying that it's possible to win. It's just that the number somehow keeps coming up just short every time....

Again, look at who Bozo State has scheduled. It's hardly the mid or lower tier P5 schools. They played Oregon when they were a top 5 school. And they played in Boise when OU was a top 20 team. They've been constantly playing OU, OSU, UW, and WSU for years. They've played MSU and Georgia in regular season games. (heck, MSU played Utah State this year)

TCU did the same thing, and eventually ended up in a P5 conference.

So stop saying this is impossible and UCF can only schedule sub-standard schools. There's way too much evidence otherwise.

There's no catch 22 at all, it's just a matter of scheduling.

And the advanced ranking systems take into account the margin of win against an opponent. Conveniently ignored that part.

And there are probably others, depending on which of the "name brand" schools you count. I just verified & posted the one game I knew of from first hand memory. Hammer likely did the same.

It's the women who sold him their services who were the real sinners. He was just misguided.

What always cracked me up about that story, is that it happened repeatedly, and over the course of almost all five of the years he was there. But no one in Oxford (population ~23,000) knew! Yeah, right.

That was all about firing him so that Ole Miss could sweep the major recruiting violations under the rug.

Don't bother complaining when you get left out again for a trash schedule.
