This is trenchant. The North Korean regime has murdered millions more than the Cubans, Iranians, and Taliban combined. Why doesn't that make The Dumpster a weak appeaser in Republican eyes?

Cause Kim is very talented. You can't find talent like that everywhere.

Best deal. Way better than the Iran deal.

Iran and North Korea are both the same and different. They're both the same in their exposition: The leaders want help with gaining weapons while tyrannically ruling, and both were shown appeasement without anything in return from different American regimes (Clinton for NK, Obama for Iran), and now we have someone who stands up to both and defends our interests, instead of selling out the USA. Sure, it's about 20 years apart, and may have shown to you differently given your phrasing, but they're really the same situation.

Here's where the difference comes into play: North Korea actually wants strife to end. The Kim family recognizes that things aren't going well, and they have to look strong, especially considering they were still technically at war. They recognized a chance at this point (even if we had to make it clear), and you know what, CNN's interview with Dennis Rodman, I do actually believe that was sincere. Even Trump brought it up I believe it was within the last week, how much of the uneasiness was caused by a lack of diplomacy. By just picking up the phone, even if things don't work out (and it'd be na´ve to believe they will in perpetuity, but we can at least take the initiative and not just leave it for granted), maybe we can actually come to some mutual terms of peace.

Iran, at least in terms of the Islamic order presently in charge, doesn't want peace. In fact, it's fairly obvious that several nations under the Islamic order don't want peace. It is in their religion to purge anyone and anything that does not follow their ways. Those who remember the reference to the Halls of Montezuma from the Marine hymn, our country was barely in our infancy, and we're already fighting them to protect our interests. This isn't just about us, either. The same held true for European explorers of Asia during the Renaissance, how they strove to find a way to the east by circumnavigation or even going around Africa, because the Middle East was so dangerous. The Spanish Inquisition was about removing the Islamic invasion of their nation. How about we also remember what happened in Tehran from 1979 to 1980. Could there be some Cold War influence in connection with oil for why Iran is seen in such a light? Perhaps. However, I don't believe Trump to be a vindictive person. If Iran wants to work something out where both sides gain benefit, I know the administration would take a meeting.

It's clear that a handshake and a statement is far, far better than a binding agreement.

Oh, and that last guy has dark skin, too. So everything he did was evil.

We will see in the long run whether this has any real impact or not. An afternoon meeting with a signed statement does not equal peace. Especially with North Korea.

It's interesting that NK is getting off seeing their flag next to ours. And I bet dumpy is getting the same high. And he expects to get a Nobel for this. Given what actually has happened (which is actually very little, typical of the tiny guy), that's not going to happen any time soon. So expect some trading problems with Sweden, too.

It's disturbing that we have an agreement with a guy who has killed so many, and at the same time, we **** off all of our allies that we regularly trade with. What's up with that?

Or something. I’m just flabbergasted by all this.
Your hypothesis will certainly be put to the test, as the findings from the 18-month witch hunt will be released this Friday. A weekend summer release so people don't talk about it, as has been happening quite a bit within the past few decades. Commendations if you choose to look beyond the carrot in front of your nose.

We've had these same type of agreements with NK before. Even in the early 2ks. It never goes anywhere.

Big waste of time as Trump tries to legitimize himself.

The whole point of this utterly meaningless signed expression of intent. And it will work with the same people who now say they didn't realize in 2016 that he is as bad as he is.

In a year probably the only tangible effect of this meeting will be to strengthen Kim's hold on power so he can continue with his murderous regime as those that surround him will fear him even more. I mean if he can arrange a meeting with the "leader of the free world" what CAN'T he do? The other tangible effect this might have is keeping people who may have been on the fence about voting for democrats in November as a check on trump's runaway idiocy from doing so, since trump just "proved" his ability to lead. I can recall the republicans saying if Obama ever met with terrorists like the leaders of Iran, it was almost an act of treason. And people wonder why I possess such hatred for the current crop of republicans and wish they would all die slowly and painfully. Hell, a slow painful death is probably too good for some of them.
And when, since the armistice of the Korean War, have the North and US, or heck even the North and South, actually spoken? Since the Korean War began, would they have even dreamed of presenting themselves to the world united? Did they even do that during the Seoul games of 1988? Oh wait, that's right the North boycotted them.

If Obama had done this, he would have actually earned his Nobel Peace Prize, even if it was after receiving it. Even Dennis Rodman, who I think we can all agree has been quite the liaison between the US and the North, tried to get Obama to help out. Never happened. And yet, you're accusing Republicans of desiring something that you're doing now: Downplaying a monumental event simply because the person helping it along has an R next to his name. So let us know when you're done with the poo-pooing and maybe we can actually give peace a chance.

You don't get the binding agreement before the handshake when you want to work something out peacefully. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. You don't get the end result without putting work into it.

And if trade partners are going to be PO'd because they have to actually give something in return, then let them be PO'd. That's the actual definition of trade. No more selling out. If we're going to trade, we're going to get some benefit.

It doesnt matter who meets with NK. Its Kim Jong Un whos not trustworthy. Nothing to do with whoever the US sends over.

There is no benefit to a dictatorship to give up power. He doesnt care about the wellbeing of his people. He cares about his power and image.

And your party, FOX News, et. al., told us for the last decade that *this exact thing* was something Obama should be strung up for Treason if he attempted.

This, "he's talking to a foreign dictator, who does that!?!?" was a quote from Fox.

no ones going to depose him. His family will just go on playing the US and others for fools. His ability to harm South Korea and Japan at large scale offers him more protection than ever to do whatever he wants at home.
