Keep that crap away from New England. I don't need any flight delays on Saturday morning.

Cat 4. But climate change doesn't make hurricanes more powerful.

Heading directly for my aunt and uncle’s house...

They’re in a shelter. She got a cot to sleep on. My uncle got a chair. Heartbreaking. They don’t move too well and she’s on oxygen.

Hotter water = more powerful hurricanes.

Climate changes all the time--gradually. When it changes this fast, it's catastrophic.

    928 mb?

    Per Wikipedia ...

Most intense landfalling tropical cyclones in the United States
Intensity is measured solely by central pressure

    Rank System Season Landfall pressure
    1 "Labor Day" 1935 892 mbar (hPa)
    2 Camille 1969 900 mbar (hPa)
    3 Katrina 2005 920 mbar (hPa) / Maria 2017
    5 Andrew 1992 922 mbar (hPa)
    6 "Indianola" 1886 925 mbar (hPa)
    7 "Guam" 1900 926 mbar (hPa)
    8 "Florida Keys" 1919 927 mbar (hPa)
    9 "Okeechobee" 1928 929 mbar (hPa)
    10 "Great Miami" 1926 930 mbar (hPa) / Donna 1960

And I'm guessing we don't have pre-1886 data.

Last year Irma passed within 15 or so miles from my house. We weren't home because we were hiding out at a beachfront hotel almost almost exactly where Michael is going to hit today. Seems weird to me personally.

I can't imagine how much water is piling up in the Big Bend area. Minor Tropical storms have piled a ton of water in there in the past as there's no where else for the water to go. This isn't going to be good.

True. Although to be fair, Gulf and south Atlantic water temps have all been significantly lower than last year's Hurricane season.

Remember though: the first advisory on what became Michael, IIRC, estimated a borderline TS/Cat 1 at best for landfall.

Reminiscent of Charley 10-12 years ago which was supposed to be a cat 1 all the way, cruising North off the Florida Gulf coast toward the panhandle and Big Bend, but instead inside of 24 hours it blew up to a cat 4, made an unexpected hard right over Captiva and into Charlotte Harbor, then on eastward across the state. I've talked to a lot of people who thought they were going to be fine, but by the time it all changed and they knew they were in trouble, it was too late to get out.

Michael makes Landfall with sustained winds at 155 mph+. Gusts near center reported at 175mph+

That is going to be a real problem.
